    Cesar Acosta1, F. Peñuñuri1, O. Carvente1, G. Rivadeneyra1, I. Martín1
    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-8, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.06.006 - 01 July 2022
Abstract In this work, the “rod counting” method is reviewed in comparison with the “box counting” method applied to linear measurements on irregular figures. Both methods are applied in measurements of fractal dimension of some knowing fractals. Results shows that the “rod counting” method is more accurate in linear measurements. Later the method is applied in a Mandelbrot fractal figure to measure its perimeter fractal dimension. More >

    Tao Bai1,2, Qingzhen Yang1, Jian Liu3, YongQiang Shi1, shengjun qiao2
    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-16, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.09.003 - 15 September 2022
Abstract The unsteady large-scale vortex near the turbine rim has an important influence on the sealing performance. Characteristics and performance of four sealing structures are researched in this paper. Three-dimensional unsteady numerical simulation was adopted to deeply reveal the characteristics of the rim sealing vortex and its influence mechanism on the rim sealing performance. The results show that the rim seal vortex structure induced by the interaction between ingested gas and sealing flow in the gap is the leading cause of unsteady flow in the rim. The vortex size is suppressed with the increasing seal flow… More >

Cost evaluations due to seismic damage to concrete buildings

    César Castillo-Castillo1, Jesús Valdés-González1, Francisco Bañuelos-García
    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-16, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.09.005 - 21 September 2022
Abstract The study of earthquake losses in structures has been traditionally addressed for a single seismic intensity, but this could be unrealistic since throughout the life of a building it can be subjected to several earthquakes with different intensities. This paper analyzes the relations between the seismic intensities with the corresponding damage costs. Three nonlinear analytical models of reinforced concrete were analyzed. Each model differs in dynamic characteristics and was designed by scaling the design spectrum for three amplification factors. A firm soil earthquake was analyzed, which was scaled to 22 intensities and with this results, More >

Prony's method and matrix pencil method performance on determining the complex natural resonance frequencies of a linear system

    Raul Barroso1, Alfonso Zozaya2
    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-20, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.06.005 - 07 July 2022
Abstract Characterization of a physical system is an important issue to approach some applied physics and engineering problems. The complex natural resonance frequencies of the system which are included in its impulsive response are characteristic of such system and are part of its description. Few works written in English language show a comparisson among discrete methods that extract natural complex frequencies from a system impulsive response. Much less common is to find works written in Spanish language about this important research topic. Given this situation, important discrete numeric methods to estimate the complex natural resonance frecuencies More >

Proposal to compute hydrodynamic pressures and sloshing heights in ground-supported rectangular tanks subjected to earthquakes

    Jaime De-la-Colina1, Carlos Alberto González-Pérez2
    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-14, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.07.001 - 20 July 2022
Abstract A proposal to estimate both the hydrodynamic pressures and the maximum wave height of liquids contained in rectangular tanks subjected to earthquake ground motions is presented. The computation procedure, based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method, assumes the fluid as a continuum and it does not use concentrated masses or springs. The solution is achieved by equating the seismic input energy of the system with the total kinetic energy of the fluid assuming liquid velocity fields. The resulting design formulas are simple and they are intended to simplify the seismic design of tanks. Numerical results lead to More >

Research on dynamic characteristics of three-shafts ring-plate magnet gear

    Yanjun Ge1, Dongning Liu2, Junyue Yang1, Xianzheng Su1
    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-13, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.09.004 - 09 September 2022
Abstract Dynamic characteristic analysis is the key step to improve the transmission performance of eccentric permanent magnet gear. The study of this step can not only analyze the dynamic force process of each transmission part, but also improve the operation stability and bearing capacity of eccentric permanent magnet gear. Taking three-shaft ring-plate magnet gear (TRMG) as the research object, based on its operation mechanism and dynamic model, this paper establishes the balance equation of force and torque of each part of TRMG. Through the combination of electromagnetic finite element simulation and mathematical analysis method, the force More >

A new tool to simulate ground shaking and earthquake losses

    Fernando Lopez Hidalgo1, Manuel Navarro2, Sergio Molina3
    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-6, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.09.007 - 28 September 2022
Abstract The main purpose of this suite is Planning and Management of Seismic Emergencies before and after future damaging earthquake. This tool is written in ArcGIS software executing a fast and efficient determination of the estimated shakemaps and damage scenarios. The tool allows to select the earthquake source parameters through a defined database; moreover ground motion prediction equations can be chosen and they can be combined according to the study area features. The local site effects are characterized from Vs30 values, which have been achieved by topographic slope as a proxy (even with local correlations) obtained… More >

Numerical investigation of load characteristics by internal solitary wave on submarines in fluids with continuous density change

    Zhiyuan QU1, Anqing LAI1,2, Binbin LIN3
    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-13, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.09.002 - 15 September 2022
Abstract Internal solitary waves (ISW) often appear in the actual ocean and carry huge energy. In order to study the interaction between the ISW and the underwater objects, considering the variation law of the fluid density along the depth direction in the actual ocean, the numerical calculation model for the ISW and the submarine in the stratified fluid is established based on the Korteweg de Vres (KdV) theory and the RANS method. The load characteristics of the ISW on the submarine are studied by using the overset mesh technology and the VOF method. When the submarine More >

    Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 1-15, 2022, DOI:10.23967/j.rimni.2022.09.001 - 09 September 2022
Abstract During the pandemic caused by the Coronavirus (Covid-19), Machine Learning (ML) techniques can be used, among other alternatives, to detect the virus in its early stages, which would aid a fast recovery and help to ease the pressure on healthcare systems. In this study, we present a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and a Bibliometric Analysis of ML technique applications in the Covid-19 pandemic, from January 2020 to June 2021, identifying possible unexplored gaps. In the SLR, the 117 most cited papers published during the period were analyzed and divided into four categories: 22 articles that… More >
