Abstract In the present medicine world antibiotic resistance is one of the key threats to universal health coverage. Researchers continue to work hard to combat this global health concern. Phage therapy, an age-old practice during the early twentieth century, was outshined by the discovery of antibiotics. With the advent of widespread antibiotic resistance, phage therapy has again redeemed itself as a potential alternative owing to its adeptness to target bacteria precisely. Limited side effects, the ability to migrate to different body organs, a distinct mode of action, and proliferation at the infection site, make phages a… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Background: Plant root-knot nematode (RKN) disease is a serious threat to agricultural production across the world. Meloidogyne incognita is the most prominent pathogen to the vegetables and cash crops cultivated. Arachis hypogaea can effectively inhibit M. incognita, but the underlying defense mechanism is still unclear. Methods: In our study, the chemotaxis and infestation of the second-stage juveniles (J2s) of M. incognita to A. hypogaea root tips were observed by the Pluronic F-127 system and stained with sodium hypochlorite acid fuchsin, respectively. The transcriptome data of A. hypogaea roots with non-infected or infected by J2s were analyzed. Results: The J2s could approach and infect… More >

Abstract Objective: Key genes were screened to analyze molecular mechanisms and their drug targets of endometriosis by applying a bioinformatics approach. Methods: Gene expression profiles of endometriosis and healthy controls were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Significant differentially expressed genes were screened using the limma package. Correlation pathways were screened by Spearman correlation analysis on the echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like 4 (EML4) and enrichment in endometriosis pathways and estimated by the GSVA package. Immune characteristics were assessed by the “ESTIMATE” R package. Potential regulatory pathways were determined by enrichment analysis. The SWISS-MODE website was used in… More > Graphic Abstract

    WEI LU1,*, KAN GUO2, DIANMEI XI1, ZHAOXIA XIA1

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.9, pp. 1995-2008, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.024591 - 28 September 2023

Abstract Background: Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes are closely related to pyroptosis in diabetic nephropathy (DN). This study aimed to explore the protective effect of exosomal miR-30a-5p on podocyte pyroptosis in DN. Methods: Streptozotocin was used to establish the mouse model of DN. Human bone marrow MSC-derived exosomes were extracted and identified via transmission electron microscopy, nanoparticle tracking analysis, and western blotting. MiR-30a-5p mimics and non-control (NC) mimics were transfected into MSCs and podocytes, and exosomes were isolated from the MSCs. High glucose (HG)-induced podocyte model was established to determine the effect of exosomal miR-30a-5p on pyroptosis… More >

Abstract Background: Despite its widespread therapeutic use and effectiveness, the underlying pharmacologic mechanisms of Wendan decoction (WDD) and how it works to treat sudden deafness (SD) remain unclear. In this study, the pharmacological mechanisms of WDD underlying SD were analyzed using network pharmacology and molecular docking. Methods: The Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP) was employed to identify the active compounds and target genes of WDD, and genes associated with SD were screened on five databases. RGUI conducted Gene Ontology (GO) functional and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses. A… More >

    Guixue Wang1,2,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.20, No.2, pp. 63-66, 2023, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2023.044564 - 29 September 2023

Abstract The analysis of biomechanical characteristics plays an important role in mastering the technical characteristics of athletes, providing guidance for the formulation and prevention of sports injury training plans and providing theoretical support for research on injury prevention and stability control in the sports field. With the importance of data analysis, the application scope of artificial intelligence methods is more extensive. For example, intelligent training systems can be used for athletes’ personalized and professional training, real-time monitoring and feedback of training data, and further reduce the risk of sports injury. However, deep learning methods process a More >

    Journal on Big Data, Vol.5, pp. 1-18, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jbd.2023.041319 - 29 September 2023

Abstract Movies are the better source of entertainment. Every year, a great percentage of movies are released. People comment on movies in the form of reviews after watching them. Since it is difficult to read all of the reviews for a movie, summarizing all of the reviews will help make this decision without wasting time in reading all of the reviews. Opinion mining also known as sentiment analysis is the process of extracting subjective information from textual data. Opinion mining involves identifying and extracting the opinions of individuals, which can be positive, neutral, or negative. The… More >

Louis F. Marie*, Karina Sałek, Tadhg S. O’Donovan

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.10, pp. 2193-2209, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.043075 - 28 September 2023

Abstract Composite thermochemical energy storage (TCES) represents an exciting field of thermal energy storage which could address the issue of seasonal variance in renewable energy supply. However, there are open questions about their performance and the root cause of some observed phenomena. Some researchers have observed the breakdown of particles in their production phase, and in their use. This study seeks to investigate the underlying cause of this breakdown. SEM and EDX analysis have been conducted on MgCl2 impregnated 13X zeolite composites of differing diameters, as well as LiX zeolite. This was done in order to study… More > Graphic Abstract

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.10, pp. 2273-2285, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.030107 - 28 September 2023

Abstract Winding is one of the most important components in power transformers. Ensuring the health state of the winding is of great importance to the stable operation of the power system. To efficiently and accurately diagnose the disc space variation (DSV) fault degree of transformer winding, this paper presents a diagnostic method of winding fault based on the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm and the frequency response analysis (FRA) method. First, a laboratory winding model is used, and DSV faults with four different degrees are achieved by changing disc space of the discs in the winding. Then,… More > Graphic Abstract
