Predicting Short-Term Wind Power Generation at Musalpetti Wind Farm: Model Development and Analysis

    Namal Rathnayake1, Jeevani Jayasinghe2,3, Rashmi Semasinghe2, Upaka Rathnayake4,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.143, No.2, pp. 2287-2305, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.064464 - 30 May 2025

Abstract In this study, a machine learning-based predictive model was developed for the Musa petti Wind Farm in Sri Lanka to address the need for localized forecasting solutions. Using data on wind speed, air temperature, nacelle position, and actual power, lagged features were generated to capture temporal dependencies. Among 24 evaluated models, the ensemble bagging approach achieved the best performance, with R2 values of 0.89 at 0 min and 0.75 at 60 min. Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) analysis revealed that while wind speed is the primary driver for short-term predictions, air temperature and nacelle position become more More >

Maximum Power Point Tracking Control of Offshore Wind-Photovoltaic Hybrid Power Generation System with Crane-Assisted

    Xiangyang Cao1,2, Yaojie Zheng1,2, Hanbin Xiao1,2,*, Min Xiao2,3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.143, No.1, pp. 289-334, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.063954 - 11 April 2025

Abstract This study investigates the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control method of offshore wind-photovoltaic hybrid power generation system with offshore crane-assisted. A new algorithm of Global Fast Integral Sliding Mode Control (GFISMC) is proposed based on the tip speed ratio method and sliding mode control. The algorithm uses fast integral sliding mode surface and fuzzy fast switching control items to ensure that the offshore wind power generation system can track the maximum power point quickly and with low jitter. An offshore wind power generation system model is presented to verify the algorithm effect. An offshore More >

Correlation Analysis of Power Quality and Power Spectrum in Wind Power Hybrid Energy Storage Systems

    Jian Gao1, Hongliang Hao2, Caifeng Wen1,*, Yongsheng Wang3, Zhanhua Han4, Edwin E. Nykilla2, Yuwen Zhang2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.3, pp. 1175-1198, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.061083 - 07 March 2025

Abstract Power quality is a crucial area of research in contemporary power systems, particularly given the rapid proliferation of intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind power. This study investigated the relationships between power quality indices of system output and PSD by utilizing theories related to spectra, PSD, and random signal power spectra. The relationship was derived, validated through experiments and simulations, and subsequently applied to multi-objective optimization. Various optimization algorithms were compared to achieve optimal system power quality. The findings revealed that the relationships between power quality indices and PSD were influenced by variations in More >

A Temporary Frequency Response Strategy Using a Voltage Source-Based Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator and Energy Storage Systems

    Baogang Chen1, Fenglin Miao2,*, Jing Yang1, Chen Qi2, Wenyan Ji1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.2, pp. 541-555, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028327 - 25 January 2024

Abstract Energy storage systems (ESS) and permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) are speculated to be able to exhibit frequency regulation capabilities by adding differential and proportional control loops with different control objectives. The available PMSG kinetic energy and charging/discharging capacities of the ESS were restricted. To improve the inertia response and frequency control capability, we propose a short-term frequency support strategy for the ESS and PMSG. To this end, the weights were embedded in the control loops to adjust the participation of the differential and proportional controls based on the system frequency excursion. The effectiveness of More >

Economic Analysis of Demand Response Incorporated Optimal Power Flow

    Ulagammai Meyyappan*, S. Joyal Isac

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.1, pp. 399-413, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.026627 - 06 June 2022

Abstract Demand Response (DR) is one of the most cost-effective and unfailing techniques used by utilities for consumer load shifting. This research paper presents different DR programs in deregulated environments. The description and the classification of DR along with their potential benefits and associated cost components are presented. In addition, most DR measurement indices and their evaluation are also highlighted. Initially, the economic load model incorporated thermal, wind, and energy storage by considering the elasticity market price from its calculated locational marginal pricing (LMP). The various DR programs like direct load control, critical peak pricing, real-time More >

Analysis of Electromagnetic Performance of Modulated Coaxial Magnetic Gears Used in Semi-Direct Drive Wind Turbines

    Jungang Wang1,*, Liqun Qian1, Shuairui Xu1, Ruina Mo2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 251-264, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014143 - 23 December 2020

Abstract Wind turbine is a key device to realize the utilization of wind energy, and it has been highly valued by all countries. But the mechanical gear transmission of the existing wind power device has the disadvantages of high vibration and noise, high failure rate, and short service time. Magnetic field modulation electromagnetic gear transmission is a new non-contact transmission method. However, the conventional modulation magnetic gear has low torque density and torque defects with large fluctuations. In order to overcome the gear transmission problems of the existing semi-direct drive wind power generation machinery and improve… More >
