Artificial Intelligence for Maximizing Agricultural Input Use Efficiency: Exploring Nutrient, Water and Weed Management Strategies

    Sumit Sow1,#, Shivani Ranjan1,#,*, Mahmoud F. Seleiman2,3, Hiba M. Alkharabsheh4,*, Mukesh Kumar1, Navnit Kumar1, Smruti Ranjan Padhan5, Dhirendra Kumar Roy1, Dibyajyoti Nath6, Harun Gitari7, Daniel O. Wasonga8

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.7, pp. 1569-1598, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.052241

Abstract Agriculture plays a crucial role in the economy, and there is an increasing global emphasis on automating agricultural processes. With the tremendous increase in population, the demand for food and employment has also increased significantly. Agricultural methods traditionally used to meet these requirements are no longer adequate, requiring solutions to issues such as excessive herbicide use and the use of chemical fertilizers. Integration of technologies such as the Internet of Things, wireless communication, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and deep learning shows promise in addressing these challenges. However, there is a lack of comprehensive documentation… More >

Evaluation of Pre-Emergence and Post-Emergence Herbicides for Weed Management in Miscanthus sacchariflorus and Miscanthus sinensis

Bimal Kumar Ghimire1, Chang Yeon Yu2, Seung Hyun Kim1, Ill Min Chung1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.5, pp. 1439-1467, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.023076

Abstract Miscanthus, is a promising bioenergy crop, considered superior to other bioenergy crops because of its higher water and nutrient use efficiency, cold tolerance, and higher production of biomass. Broadleaf weeds and grass weeds, cause major problems in the Miscanthus field. A field experiment was conducted in 2018 and 2019, to assess the effects of pre-emergence (alachlor and napropamide) and post-emergence herbicides (nicosulfuron, dicamba, bentazon, and glufosinate ammonium) on broadleaf and grass weeds in M. sinensis and M. sacchariflorus fields. The weed control efficiency and phytotoxicity of pre- and post-emergence herbicides were evaluated at 30 days after treatment (DAT) and… More >

Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Based Decision Support System for Weed Management

Ashit Kumar Dutta1,*, Yasser Albagory2, Abdul Rahaman Wahab Sait3, Ismail Mohamed Keshta1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 899-915, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026783

Abstract Recently, autonomous systems become a hot research topic among industrialists and academicians due to their applicability in different domains such as healthcare, agriculture, industrial automation, etc. Among the interesting applications of autonomous systems, their applicability in agricultural sector becomes significant. Autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be used for suitable site-specific weed management (SSWM) to improve crop productivity. In spite of substantial advancements in UAV based data collection systems, automated weed detection still remains a tedious task owing to the high resemblance of weeds to the crops. The recently developed deep learning (DL) models have… More >
