Effect of Rotation on the Propagation of Waves in Hollow Poroelastic Circular Cylinder with Magnetic Field

    A.M. Farhan1, 2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.53, No.2, pp. 129-156, 2017, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2017.053.133

Abstract Employing Biot’s theory of wave propagation in liquid saturated porous media, the effect of rotation and magnetic field on wave propagation in a hollow poroelastic circular of infinite extent are investigated. An exact closed form solution is presented. General frequency equations for propagation of poroelastic cylinder are obtained when the boundaries are stress free. The frequencies are calculated for poroelastic cylinder for different values of magnetic field and rotation. Numerical results are given and illustrated graphically. The results indicate that the effect of rotation, and magnetic field are very pronounced. Such a model would be useful in large-scale parametric studies… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 153-174, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2014.043.153

Abstract The ring ultrasonic transducers are widely used in the ocean engineering and medical fields. This paper proposes a double orthogonal polynomial series approach to solve the wave propagation problem in a functionally graded piezoelectric-piezomagnetic (FGPP) ring with a rectangular cross-section. Through numerical comparison with the available reference results for a pure elastic homogeneous rectangular bar, the validity of the proposed approach is illustrated. The dispersion curves and displacement distributions of various FGPP rectangular bars are calculated to reveal their wave characteristics. The results can be used for the design and optimization of the ring FGPP transducers. More >

Transient Analysis of Elastic Wave Propagation in Multilayered Structures

    Yi-Hsien Lin1, Chien-Ching Ma1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 15-42, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2011.024.015

Abstract In this article, explicit transient solutions for one-dimensional wave propagation behavior in multi-layered structures are presented. One of the objectives of this study is to develop an effective analytical method for constructing solutions in multilayered media. Numerical calculations are performed by three methods: the generalized ray method, numerical Laplace inversion method (Durbin's formula), and finite element method (FEM). The analytical result of the generalized ray solution for multilayered structures is composed of a matrix-form Bromwich expansion in the transform domain. Every term represents a group of waves, which are transmitted or reflected through the interface. The matrix representation of the… More >

A Lie-Group Adaptive Method for Imaging a Space-Dependent Rigidity Coefficient in an Inverse Scattering Problem of Wave Propagation

    Chein-Shan Liu1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 1-20, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2010.018.001

Abstract We are concerned with the reconstruction of an unknown space-dependent rigidity coefficient in a wave equation. This problem is known as one of the inverse scattering problems. Based on a two-point Lie-group equation we develop a Lie-group adaptive method (LGAM) to solve this inverse scattering problem through iterations, which possesses a special character that by using onlytwo boundary conditions and two initial conditions, as those used in the direct problem, we can effectively reconstruct the unknown rigidity function by aself-adaption between the local in time differential governing equation and the global in time algebraic Lie-group equation. The accuracy and efficiency… More >
