    Shan Liu1, Chengbin Chi1, Fengze Han2, Yanan Wu1, Lin Zhu1, Tuo Wang2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.8, pp. 2257-2273, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.049861 - 19 July 2024

Abstract Voltage source converter based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) can participate in voltage regulation by flexible control to help maintain the voltage stability of the power grid. In order to quantitatively evaluate its influence on the voltage interaction between VSC-HVDC and line commutated converter based high voltage direct current (LCC-HVDC), this paper proposes a hybrid multi-infeed interaction factor (HMIIF) calculation method considering the voltage regulation control characteristics of VSC-HVDC. Firstly, for a hybrid multi-infeed high voltage direct current system, an additional equivalent operating admittance matrix is constructed to characterize HVDC equipment characteristics under small disturbance.… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.1, pp. 599-609, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021052 - 24 August 2022

Abstract In this paper, a model free volt/var control (VVC) algorithm is developed by using deep reinforcement learning (DRL). We transform the VVC problem of distribution networks into the network framework of PPO algorithm, in order to avoid directly solving a large-scale nonlinear optimization problem. We select photovoltaic inverters as agents to adjust system voltage in a distribution network, taking the reactive power output of inverters as action variables. An appropriate reward function is designed to guide the interaction between photovoltaic inverters and the distribution network environment. OPENDSS is used to output system node voltage and More >

Comprehensive Energy-Saving Optimization Model of Asynchronous Motor for Voltage Regulation Based on Static Synchronous Compensator

    Shuqiao Dan*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.3, pp. 1047-1057, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.015594 - 31 March 2022

Abstract There are several problems existing in the direct starting of asynchronous motor such as large starting current, reactive power absorption from network side and weak interference-resistance, etc. Aiming at this, a comprehensive energy-saving optimization model of asynchronous motor for voltage regulation based on static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is put forward. By analyzing the working principle and operation performance of static synchronous compensator regulating voltage, a new energy-efficient optimization method for asynchronous motor is proposed based on the voltage regulator model to achieve soft start, continuous dynamic reactive power compensation and the terminal voltage stability control. Ahmed Agwa1,2,*, Salah Elsayed3, Mahrous Ahmed3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.2, pp. 799-815, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.019887 - 22 September 2021

Abstract Automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) in electrical grids preserve the voltage at its nominal value. Regulating the parameters of proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controllers used for AVRs is a nonlinear optimization issue. The objective function is designed to minimize the settling time, rise time, and overshoot of step response of resultant voltage with subjugation to constraints of PID controller parameters. In this study, we suggest using an Archimedes optimization algorithm (AOA) to tune the parameters of the PID controllers for AVRs. In addition, using an AOA to optimize the parameters of a fractional-order PID (FOPID) controller and a… More >

UPFC Based Real-Time Optimization of Power Systems for Dynamic Voltage Regulation

    Serhat Berat Efe1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.116, No.3, pp. 391-406, 2018, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2018.01784

Abstract Flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) components are used to utilize the electrical transmission lines at their optimum capacity. The best way to achieve this optimization is to manage the active and reactive power flows. A unified power flow controller (UPFC) is one of the most significant devices developed for the effective control of power flows. Although conventional UPFC structures can be used to achieve this process, the expansion of power systems has led to the necessity of developing various UPFC devices. This paper focuses on an advanced real time control approach of UPFC… More >
