Phenolic Profile and Volatiles of in vitro Propagated Lavandula angustifolia Mill. Seedlings

    Mir Abdullatif Yahya1, Fatma Tunali1, Dilek Killi2,*, Atalay Sökmen2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.3, pp. 427-444, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.046271 - 28 March 2024

Abstract An effective in vitro propagation protocol was designed for Lavandula angustifolia Miller, a medicinal aromatic plant that is a prominent source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Murashige and Skoog media were supplemented with various concentrations of Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs), and the growth parameters of the nodal segments were examined. Nodal explants formed callus when they were supplemented with 2 mg/L of 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP). The superior hormonal concentration of Murashige and Skoog (MS) media for the proliferation of shoots from callus cultures (39.33%) was 5 mg/L of 2-Isopentenyl adenine (2iP), and the favorable media for the growth… More >

Controlled-Release of Plant Volatiles: New Composite Materials of Porous Carbon-Citral and Their Fungicidal Activity against Exobasidium vexans

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 811-823, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.022594 - 22 September 2022

Abstract Citral (Eo) exhibits excellent fungicidal activities. However, it is difficult to maintain long-term fungicidal activity due to its strong volatility. Herein, a controlled-release strategy by using biomass-derived porous carbon (BC) was developed to overcome the drawback of Eo. New composite materials were prepared by loading Eo on tea stem porous carbon (BC@Eo), and their controlled-release fungicidal activity against Exobasidium vexans was assessed. BC with a large specific surface area of 1001.6 m2/g and mesoporous structure was fabricated through carbonization temperature of 700°C. The BC@Eo materials were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction. The results… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Offsetting particulate matter emissions has become a critical global aim as there are concerted efforts to deal with environmental and energy poverty challenges. This study consists of investigations of computing emissions of particulate matter from biomass fuels in various atmospheres and temperatures. The laboratory setup included a fixed bed electric reactor and a particulate matter (PM) measuring machine interfaced with the flue gas from the fixed bed reactor combustion chamber. The experiments were conducted at seven different temperatures (600°C–1200°C) and six incremental oxygen concentrations (21%–100%). Five biomass types were studied; A-cornstalk, B-wood, C-wheat straw, D-Rice… More > Graphic Abstract
