Abstract Our study aimed to compare the essential oil (EO) concentration and composition of several Apiaceae species growing in the Northern region of Vietnam. The yields of EOs from materials ranged from 0.03% (root EO of Angelica acutiloba and aerial parts EO of Heracleum bivittatum)−0.27% (leaf EO of Xyloselinum vietnamense). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) allowed the identification of 74 components in the EOs of six Apiaceae species, making up 94.4%–100.0% of the oils. In EO from Angelica acutiloba, (Z)-ligustilide accounted for an extremely large proportion (94.9%). EO of Angelica pubescens was dominated by six characteristic components including α-pinene (21.5%), β-phellandrene (18.1%), p-cymene… More >

Abstract Tuberculosis is a dangerous disease to human life, and we need a lot of attempts to stop and reverse it. Significantly, in the COVID-19 pandemic, access to medical services for tuberculosis has become very difficult. The late detection of tuberculosis could lead to danger to patient health, even death. Vietnam is one of the countries heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and many residential areas as well as hospitals have to be isolated for a long time. Reality demands a fast and effective tuberculosis diagnosis solution to deal with the difficulty of accessing medical services,… More >

A Novel Method in Wood Identification Based on Anatomical Image Using Hybrid Model

Nguyen Minh Trieu, Nguyen Truong Thinh*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 2381-2396, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.040030 - 28 July 2023

Abstract Nowadays, wood identification is made by experts using hand lenses, wood atlases, and field manuals which take a lot of cost and time for the training process. The quantity and species must be strictly set up, and accurate identification of the wood species must be made during exploitation to monitor trade and enforce regulations to stop illegal logging. With the development of science, wood identification should be supported with technology to enhance the perception of fairness of trade. An automatic wood identification system and a dataset of 50 commercial wood species from Asia are established,… More >

Detecting Tuberculosis from Vietnamese X-Ray Imaging Using Transfer Learning Approach

Ha Manh Toan1, Lam Thanh Hien2, Ngo Duc Vinh3, Do Nang Toan1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 5001-5016, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033429 - 28 December 2022

Abstract Deep learning created a sharp rise in the development of autonomous image recognition systems, especially in the case of the medical field. Among lung problems, tuberculosis, caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a dangerous disease because of its infection and damage. When an infected person coughs or sneezes, tiny droplets can bring pathogens to others through inhaling. Tuberculosis mainly damages the lungs, but it also affects any part of the body. Moreover, during the period of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic, the access to tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment has become more difficult, so… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.3, pp. 2219-2241, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.022566 - 23 November 2022

Abstract Flash floods are one of the most dangerous natural disasters, especially in hilly terrain, causing loss of life, property, and infrastructures and sudden disruption of traffic. These types of floods are mostly associated with landslides and erosion of roads within a short time. Most of Vietnam is hilly and mountainous; thus, the problem due to flash flood is severe and requires systematic studies to correctly identify flood susceptible areas for proper landuse planning and traffic management. In this study, three Machine Learning (ML) methods namely Deep Learning Neural Network (DL), Correlation-based Feature Weighted Naive Bayes… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 3231-3248, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.031428 - 31 October 2022

Abstract This study aims to assess and rank the service quality of the healthcare system utilizing a Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchical Process (Fuzzy AHP) and Grey Relational Analysis (Fuzzy GRA) technique. In this study, the six primary characteristics of healthcare service quality, comprising Tangibles (A), Healthcare Staff (B), Responsiveness (C), Relationships (D), Support Service (E), and Accessibility (F), are examined through a case study of 20 private and public hospitals in Hanoi, Vietnam. The weighting results of Fuzzy AHP technique indicated that Responsiveness (C) has the highest ranking, followed by Relationships (D) and Healthcare Staff (B). Meanwhile, More >

Characterization and Pathogenicity of Pseudopestalotiopsis vietnamensis Causing Gray Blight of Wuyi Rock Tea (Camellia sinensis) in China and Specific Mechanisms of Disease Infection

    Guangheng Wu1,#,*, Lu Rui2,3,#, Xiang Lu4, Libo Han2, Gan Lv1, Xianyu Fu5, Jinxian Liu5, Nong Zhou3, Chuanhai Zhang1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 131-147, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.021919 - 06 September 2022

Abstract Gray blight disease (GBD) causes significant losses in tea production in China. Although genes and biological processes involved in resistance to fungal disease in tea plants have been identified, specific mechanisms of the GBD infection process remain unknown. In this study, morphological and multi-gene (TEF-TUB-ITS) phylogenetic characteristics were used to identify isolate CLBB1 of Pseudopestalotiopsis vietnamensis. Pathogenicity tests confirmed that isolate CLBB1 from tea leaves caused GBD in the susceptible tea cultivar Wuyi Rock (Camellia sinensis var. sinensis cv. Shuixian). Spores began to germinate 24 h after infection (hai), and after 48 h, elongated fungal hyphae formed from a single More >

Emotional Vietnamese Speech Synthesis Using Style-Transfer Learning

Thanh X. Le, An T. Le, Quang H. Nguyen*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.2, pp. 1263-1278, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.026234 - 15 June 2022

Abstract In recent years, speech synthesis systems have allowed for the production of very high-quality voices. Therefore, research in this domain is now turning to the problem of integrating emotions into speech. However, the method of constructing a speech synthesizer for each emotion has some limitations. First, this method often requires an emotional-speech data set with many sentences. Such data sets are very time-intensive and labor-intensive to complete. Second, training each of these models requires computers with large computational capabilities and a lot of effort and time for model tuning. In addition, each model for each… More >
