Curvelet Transform Based on Edge Preserving Filter for Retinal Blood Vessel Segmentation

    Sonali Dash1, Sahil Verma2,*, Kavita2, N. Z. Jhanjhi3, Mehedi Masud4, Mohammed Baz5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 2459-2476, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020904 - 07 December 2021

Abstract Segmentation of vessel in retinal fundus images is a primary step for the clinical identification for specific eye diseases. Effective diagnosis of vascular pathologies from angiographic images is thus a vital aspect and generally depends on segmentation of vascular structure. Although various approaches for retinal vessel segmentation are extensively utilized, however, the responses are lower at vessel's edges. The curvelet transform signifies edges better than wavelets, and hence convenient for multiscale edge enhancement. The bilateral filter is a nonlinear filter that is capable of providing effective smoothing while preserving strong edges. Fast bilateral filter is… More >

Detection and Grading of Diabetic Retinopathy in Retinal Images Using Deep Intelligent Systems: A Comprehensive Review

    H. Asha Gnana Priya1, J. Anitha1, Daniela Elena Popescu2, Anju Asokan1, D. Jude Hemanth1, Le Hoang Son3,4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 2771-2786, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012907 - 28 December 2020

Abstract Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is an eye disease that mainly affects people with diabetes. People affected by DR start losing their vision from an early stage even though the symptoms are identified only at the later stage. Once the vision is lost, it cannot be regained but can be prevented from causing any further damage. Early diagnosis of DR is required for preventing vision loss, for which a trained ophthalmologist is required. The clinical practice is time-consuming and is not much successful in identifying DR at early stages. Hence, Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system is a suitable More >

Retinal Vessel Extraction Framework Using Modified Adaboost Extreme Learning Machine

    B. V. Santhosh Krishna1, *, T. Gnanasekaran2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.60, No.3, pp. 855-869, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.07585

Abstract An explicit extraction of the retinal vessel is a standout amongst the most significant errands in the field of medical imaging to analyze both the ophthalmological infections, for example, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) as well as non retinal sickness such as stroke, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. The state of the retinal vasculature is a significant indicative element in the field of ophthalmology. Retinal vessel extraction in fundus imaging is a difficult task because of varying size vessels, moderately low distinction, and presence of pathologies such as hemorrhages,… More >
