    Abstract In this paper, a modified form of the traditional inverse Lomax distribution is proposed and its characteristics are studied. The new distribution which called modified logarithmic transformed inverse Lomax distribution is generated by adding a new shape parameter based on logarithmic transformed method. It contains two shape and one scale parameters and has different shapes of probability density and hazard rate functions. The new shape parameter increases the flexibility of the statistical properties of the traditional inverse Lomax distribution including mean, variance, skewness and kurtosis.     Abstract This paper deals with the numerical study of heat and mass transfer occurring in a cavity filled with a low Prandtl number liquid.     Closure Effect Evaluation of Surface Crack Growth under Cyclic Bending using S-FEM

    Abstract Crack closure effect on interaction of two surface crack growth processes by fatigue is studied. At first, change of C value in Paris' law along crack front of single surface crack is measured experimentally. It is shown that C value decreases near specimen surface. Crack closure effect is studied numerically for a surface crack by elastic-plastic cyclic analyses. It is found that closure effect appears more strongly near specimen surface than the maximum-depth point.     Abstract This paper presents a novel and accurate technique for modeling discontinuous derivatives in meshfree methods, which will be used in the analysis of structures with material interfaces. The novelty lies in the formulation of the Moving Least Squares Approximation (MLSA) scheme where an introduced discontinuous derivative basis function replaces the conventional linear basis function.
