    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.6, pp. 1279-1297, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.050753 - 27 June 2024

Abstract This study includes an experimental and numerical analysis of the performances of a parabolic trough collector (PTC) with and without cylindrical turbulators. The PTC is designed with dimensions of 2.00 m in length and 1.00 m in width. The related reflector is made of lined sheets of aluminum, and the tubes are made of stainless steel used for the absorption of heat. They have an outer diameter of 0.051 m and a wall thickness of 0.002 m. Water, used as a heat transfer fluid (HTF), flows through the absorber tube at a mass flow rate… More >

Numerical Investigations of Laminar Air Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics in a Square Channel Inserted with Discrete X-V Baffles (XVB)

    Amnart Boonloi1, Withada Jedsadaratanachai2,*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 317-336, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.044929 - 30 November 2023

Abstract Thermal performance enhancement in a square channel heat exchanger (HX) using a passive technique is presented. Vortex turbulator insertion in a square channel HX as a passive technique is selected for thermal improvement. The vortex turbulator of interest is discrete X-V baffles (XVB). The discrete XVBs are inserted in the square channel with the main aim of generating vortex flow. The vortex flow generated can support the enhanced convective heat transfer coefficient and also enhance HX performance. Effects of baffle configuration (type A and B), baffle size (w/H = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20), baffle… More > Graphic Abstract

Effect of the Arrangement of a New-Type of Turbulator Inserts on Heat Pipe Exchanger Performances

    Ibtisam A. Hasan*, Wafa Maki

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2749-2759, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.027260 - 25 June 2023

Abstract This research tests the effect of introducing turbulators of a new type into a circular tube heat exchanger under a constant and uniform longitudinal heat flux condition. A 45 mm diameter copper tube with a length of 1,350 mm is utilized with a solid disk being inserted inside the tube, which consists of three sections, each one containing two slots. The slot is cut at a 45 degree angle toward the inner tube surface, which results in diverging the flow toward the inner hot tube surface in order to enhance the heat transfer process. Air is considered More >

STUDY ON HEAT TRANSFER AUGMENTATION IN AN AIR HEATER USING RECTANGULAR WAVY FIN TURBULATORS

    Nitesh Kumar, Shiva Kumar*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 10-11, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.10

Abstract In the present study, the use of wavy fin turbulators on the annulus body of a double pipe air heater has been numerically investigated. The inner pipe consists of hot water whereas the annular section consists of cold air whose Reynolds Number (Re) ranged from 3000-15,000. Rectangular crosssectioned wavy fin turbulators with various curvature ratios of 2, 3, 5, and 7.5 is numerically simulated to investigate the influence of curvature effects on turbulence. Results have been compared with the bare pipe and with rectangular straight fins. It is seen that wavy fin turbulators perform better More >
