Abstract This article proposes a new structure to enhance the torque and torque density of permanent magnet gears. The outer magnet is designed with a dual-layer permanent magnet configuration, where the first layer adopts a Halbach array, and the other layer utilizes a conventional radial magnetization structure. With the optimization objectives defined as maximum torque and torque density, and guided by parameter sensitivity, optimization analysis was conducted using response surface method and multi-objective genetic algorithm.
