    Qingyuan Hu1,*, Yuan Liang2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09441

Abstract The Nitsche’s method is originally proposed as a technique to impose boundary conditions, nowadays it is widely used for isometric analysis (IGA) and corresponding topology optimization applications. Based on our previous research [1], we present a simple way to derive the Nitsche’s formulations for different kind of boundary and interface conditions, and studied this technique in the context of IGA discretization, especially for patch coupling and contact problems. The skew-symmetric variant of the Nitsche’s method is then further studied. For linear boundary or interface conditions, the skew-symmetric formulation is parameterfree. For contact conditions, it remains… More >

    Jinyu Gu1, Jinping Qu1, Yingjun Wang1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09161

Abstract In the topology optimization problem of mechanical structures, the optimization objectives are mainly focused on the compliance minimization, displacement minimization, stress minimization, and so on. However, in practical engineering, these kinds of optimization objectives do not meet all the requirements. Some structures, such as wind turbine blades and engine blades of aircrafts, are required to maintain a superior aerodynamic shape under external loads. This puts a higher requirement on the local deformation homogenization of the structure. Therefore, we proposed a topology optimization method for the minimization of local relative displacement differences considering stress constraints. First,… More >

    Dan Li1, Jie Wang1, Haibo Chen1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.4, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09139

Abstract In practical vibro-acoustic problems, the external excitation normally contains a certain frequency band structure [1]. Therefore, it is needed to perform optimization under frequency band analysis. For sound radiation problems caused by structural vibration, a topology optimization method for structural materials is proposed based on the acoustic-vibration coupling analysis [2-6] and the frequency-band matrix interpolation method [7,8]. By combining the advantages of FEM and BEM in structural and acoustic field analysis, the accurate solution of the acoustic-vibration coupling problem is achieved. The structural material interpolation model is established using the solid isotropic material with penalization… More >

    Haoyi Cheng1, Jingwen Guo1, Wenjing Ye1.*, Xin Zhang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09237

Abstract With their thin thicknesses and unprecedent wave manipulation capabilities, acoustic metasurfaces have a great potential to be applied in a wide range of applications. Most existing metasurfaces are passive devices. Although passive devices are easy to implement and consume no energy, one major shortcoming of passive devices is their fixed and limited functionality, which greatly limits their application scope. To increase the functionalities of a metasurface and yet still maintain its passivity, we propose to use the wave frequency as a tuning freedom to realize multiple functionalities in one single passive device. Specifically, the passive More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09095

Abstract The rapid development of topology optimization has given birth to a large amount of different topology optimization methods, and each of them can manage a class of corresponding engineering problems. However, structures need to meet a variety of requirements in engineering application, such as lightweight and multiple load-bearing performance. To design composite structures that have multiple structural properties, a new multi-scale topology optimization method considering multiple structural performances is proposed in this paper. Based on the fitting functions of the result set and the bisection method, a new method to determine the weight coefficient is… More >

TPMS-Based Topology Optimization Design with Multiple Materials via MMC Method

    Sinuo Zhang1, Daicong Da2, Yingjun Wang1,3,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09085

Abstract Topology optimization (TO) designs involving multiple materials suffer either difficult interface modeling or finding physically meaningful transition domains with an accurate structural representation. Simple interpolation approaches are usually used in multi-material designs to represent the overlapped regions of different materials, which cannot solve either of these problems. In this paper, a moving morphable component (MMC)-based TO is developed to overcome this issue by leveraging the triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS). The TMPS-based architecture will serve as the infilling microstructure to accurately represent the overlapped domains of different materials. A TPMS function interpolation scheme is used… More >

An Automatic Post-Processing Procedure for Isogeometric Topology Optimization Results

    Yuhao Yang1, Yingjun Wang1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09068

Abstract In the intelligent structural optimization, designers can obtain a high-performance design scheme automatically with the help of topology optimization (TO). Since computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) models have different geometric representations in TO, the optimized results must be reconstructed to generate CAD models, which is complicated and time-consuming. To address this issue, the isogeometric analysis (IGA) is employed in TO to replace the finite element method (FEM), and such TO is termed as isogeometric TO (ITO). ITO is an advanced TO method with high efficiency and accuracy. It uses the same… More >

Multi-resolution Topology Optimization Using B-spline to Represent the Density Field

    Zhenbiao Guo1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.08904

Abstract This work proposes a novel multi-resolution topology optimization method using B-spline to represent the density field, and overcomes the defects of tedious post-processing of element-based models and low computational efficiency of topology optimization for large-scale problems. The design domain embedded in the B-spline space is discretized with a coarser analysis mesh and a finer density mesh to reduce the computational cost of finite element analysis. As design variables, the coefficients of the control points control the shape of the B-spline. The optimized B-spline can be quickly and precisely converted into a CAD model. Topological Design of Negative Poisson’s Ratio Material Microstructure Under Large Deformation with a Gradient-Free Method

    Pai Liu1,*, Weida Wu1, Yangjun Luo1, Yifan Zhang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09893

Abstract Lightweight metamaterials with negative Poisson’s ratios (NPRs) have great potential for controlling deformation, absorbing energy, etc. The topology optimization [1] technique is an effective way to design metamaterials. However, as studied in [2], the NPR metamaterial configuration obtained under small deformation assumption may not maintain the desired Poisson’s ratio under relatively large deformation conditions. This paper focuses on the large-deformation NPR metamaterial design based on a gradient-free topology optimization method, i.e. the material-field series expansion (MFSE) method [3]. The metamaterial’s performance is evaluated using the finite element method, taking into account the geometry nonlinearity. By… More >
