    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.12, pp. 2741-2755, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.055890 - 23 December 2024

Abstract This study investigates the potential for enhancing the thermal performance of external walls insulation in warmer climates through the combination of phase change materials (PCMs) and bio-based materials, specifically hemp wool and wood wool. Experimental tests using the heat flow method (HFM), and numerical simulations with ANSYS Fluent software were conducted to assess the dynamic thermal distribution and fluid-mechanical aspects of phase change materials (PCMs) within composite walls. The results demonstrate a notable reduction in peak indoor temperatures, achieving a 58% reduction with hemp wool with a close 40% reduction with wood wool when combined More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.141, No.3, pp. 2555-2574, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.055312 - 31 October 2024

Abstract Heat transport has been significantly enhanced by the widespread usage of extended surfaces in various engineering domains. Gas turbine blade cooling, refrigeration, and electronic equipment cooling are a few prevalent applications. Thus, the thermal analysis of extended surfaces has been the subject of a significant assessment by researchers. Motivated by this, the present study describes the unsteady thermal dispersal phenomena in a wavy fin with the presence of convection heat transmission. This analysis also emphasizes a novel mathematical model in accordance with transient thermal change in a wavy profiled fin resulting from convection using the… More >

Empirical Thermal Investigation of Oil–Immersed Distribution Transformer under Various Loading Conditions

Syed Ali Raza*, Ahsan Ullah, Shuang He, Yifeng Wang, Jiangtao Li

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.129, No.2, pp. 829-847, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.017360 - 08 October 2021

Abstract The distribution transformer is the mainstay of the power system. Its internal temperature study is desirable for its safe operation in the power system. The purpose of the present study is to determine direct comprehensive thermal distribution in the distribution transformers for different loading conditions. To achieve this goal, the temperature distribution in the oil, core, and windings are studied at each loading. An experimental study is performed with a 10/0.38 kV, 10 kVA oil–immersed transformer equipped with forty–two PT100 sensors (PTs) for temperature measurement installed inside during its manufacturing process. All possible locations for… More >
