    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.23, No.2, pp. 663-684, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2025.060559 - 25 April 2025

Abstract This article aims to model and analyze the heat and fluid flow characteristics of a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) nanofluid within a convergent-divergent shaped microchannel (Two-dimensional). The base fluid, water + CMC (0.5%), is mixed with CuO and Al2O3 nanoparticles at volume fractions of 0.5% and 1.5%, respectively. The research is conducted through the conjugate usage of experimental and theoretical models to represent more realistic properties of the non-Newtonian nanofluid. Three types of microchannels including straight, divergent, and convergent are considered, all having the same length and identical inlet cross-sectional area. Using ANSYS FLUENT software, Navier-Stokes equations… More > Graphic Abstract

    Rui Li1,*, Yonggang Huang2, John A. Rogers2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.31, No.4, pp. 1-2, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012578

Abstract Bioresorbable electronic devices represent an emerging class of technology that involves components which physically disappear, in whole or in part, at prescribed rates and at programmed times [1,2]. Obtaining reliable performance and favorable degradation behavior demands materials that can serve as biofluid barriers in encapsulating structures that avoid premature degradation of active electronic components [3–5]. We have recently presented a multilayer organic–inorganic film design that addresses this need, with properties in water impermeability, mechanical flexibility, and processability that are superior to alternatives [6,7]. Theoretical modeling for water permeation across the multilayer films provides an important More >

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 805-833, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2024.051033 - 20 September 2024

Abstract In this paper, a new type of bamboo scrimber column embedded with steel bars (rebars) was proposed, and the compression performance was improved by pre-embedding rebars during the preparation of the columns. The effects of the slenderness ratio and the reinforcement ratio on the axial compression performance of reinforced bamboo scrimber columns were studied by axial compression tests on 28 specimens. The results showed that the increase in the slenderness ratio had a significant negative effect on the axial compression performance of the columns. When the slenderness ratio increased from 19.63 to 51.96, the failure… More >

Theoretical and Numerical Research on the Vertical Impact of a Slender Flat-Ended 316 Stainless Steel Rod

    Yifan Wang1, Tao Wang1,*, Xuan Ye2,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010058

Abstract Rod occasionally drops and impacts on a substrate, which can induce drastic vibration within the rod. Acquaintance with the mechanical and motional responses helps to evaluate the structure. In this study, the vertical impact of a slender flat-ended 316 stainless steel rod on a rigid flat was investigated. The rod was basically elastic despite minute plastic dissipation, which accounted for around 0.11% of the total energy, probably due to the convergence of the incident stress waves. Theoretical models describing the longitudinal vibration of the rod was established respectively using the contact-impact force and the displacement… More >
