Industrial Datasets with ICS Testbed and Attack Detection Using Machine Learning Techniques

    Sinil Mubarak1, Mohamed Hadi Habaebi1,*, Md Rafiqul Islam1, Asaad Balla1, Mohammad Tahir2, Elfatih A. A. Elsheikh3, F. M. Suliman3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 1345-1360, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.020801 - 09 October 2021

Abstract Industrial control systems (ICS) are the backbone for the implementation of cybersecurity solutions. They are susceptible to various attacks, due to openness in connectivity, unauthorized attempts, malicious attacks, use of more commercial off the shelf (COTS) software and hardware, and implementation of Internet protocols (IP) that exposes them to the outside world. Cybersecurity solutions for Information technology (IT) secured with firewalls, intrusion detection/protection systems do nothing much for Operational technology (OT) ICS. An innovative concept of using real operational technology network traffic-based testbed, for cyber-physical system simulation and analysis, is presented. The testbed is equipped… More >

Development of a Module for Measuring Electrical Variables in Power Transformers Based in IoT, to Manage and Monitoring by Telemetry Mechanism

Jesus Hamilton Ortiz1, Javier Ferney Castillo García2, Osamah Ibrahim Khalaf3, Fernando Velez Varela2,*, Pedro Jefferson Barragan Baron2, Jhon Hadder Guzmán Atehortúa2

    Journal on Internet of Things, Vol.3, No.2, pp. 53-63, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jiot.2021.014736 - 15 July 2021

Abstract This work shows the development of a module that performs measurements of electrical variables in a low voltage power transformer. These variables are sent by means of the IEEE802.11 standard, connecting to a database stored in the cloud; associating with the meter IoT concepts, this to allow a client to perform an analysis, monitoring and management of their electrical network. For the construction of this module, non-invasive current sensors connected to a three-phase meter are used and a communication card is used that allows data to be extracted from the meter and sent to the More >

MSICST: Multiple-Scenario Industrial Control System Testbed for Security Research

    Wei Xu1,2, Yaodong Tao2,3, Chunfang Yang4,*, Huiqin Chen5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.60, No.2, pp. 691-705, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05678

Abstract A security testbed is an important aspect of Industrial Control System (ICS) security research. However, existing testbeds still have many problems in that they cannot fully simulate enterprise networks and ICS attacks. This paper presents a Multiple-Scenario Industrial Control System Testbed (MSICST), a hardware-in-the-loop ICS testbed for security research. The testbed contains four typical process scenarios: thermal power plant, rail transit, smart grid, and intelligent manufacturing. We use a combination of actual physical equipment and software simulations to build the process scenario sand table and use real hardware and software to build the control systems, More >

Secure Video Streaming with Lightweight Cipher PRESENT in an SDN Testbed

    Pengcheng Liu1, †, Xiaojun Wang1, †, S. R. Chaudhry1, Khalid Javeed2, Yue Ma3, *, Martin Collier1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.57, No.3, pp. 353-363, 2018, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2018.04142

Abstract The combination of traditional processors and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) is shaping the future networking platform for intensive computation in resource-constrained networks and devices. These networks present two key challenges of security and resource limitations. Lightweight ciphers are suitable to provide data security in such constrained environments. Implementing the lightweight PRESENT encryption algorithm in a reconfigurable platform (FPGAs) can offer secure communication service and flexibility. This paper presents hardware acceleration of security primitives in SDN using NETFPGA-10G. We implement an efficient design of the PRESENT algorithm for faster, smaller and lower power consumption hardware More >
