Experimental Study on the Axial Compression Performance of Bamboo Scrimber Columns Embedded with Steel Reinforcing Bars

    Xueyan Lin1,#, Mingtao Wu2,#, Guodong Li1,*, Nan Guo3, Lidan Mei1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 805-833, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2024.051033 - 20 September 2024

Abstract In this paper, a new type of bamboo scrimber column embedded with steel bars (rebars) was proposed, and the compression performance was improved by pre-embedding rebars during the preparation of the columns. The effects of the slenderness ratio and the reinforcement ratio on the axial compression performance of reinforced bamboo scrimber columns were studied by axial compression tests on 28 specimens. The results showed that the increase in the slenderness ratio had a significant negative effect on the axial compression performance of the columns. When the slenderness ratio increased from 19.63 to 51.96, the failure… More >

Bond-Slip Behavior of Steel Bar and Recycled Steel Fibre-Reinforced Concrete

    Ismail Shah1,2, Jing Li1,3,4,*, Nauman Khan5, Hamad R. Almujibah6, Muhammad Mudassar Rehman2, Ali Raza7, Yun Peng3,4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 167-186, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.031503 - 23 January 2024

Abstract Recycled steel fiber reinforced concrete is an innovative construction material that offers exceptional mechanical properties and durability. It is considered a sustainable material due to its low carbon footprint and environmental friendly characteristics. This study examines the key influencing factors that affect the behavior of this material, such as the steel fiber volume ratio, recycled aggregate replacement rate, concrete strength grade, anchorage length, and stirrup constraint. The study investigates the bond failure morphology, bond-slip, and bond strength constitutive relationship of steel fiber recycled concrete. The results show that the addition of steel fibers at 0.5%,… More >

Long-Term Loading Test of Reinforced Glulam Beam

    Nan Guo1, Jing Ren1, Ling Li1,*, Yan Zhao2, Mingtao Wu1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 183-201, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015756 - 27 July 2021

Abstract Due to creep characteristics of wood, long-term loading can cause a significant stress loss of steel bars in reinforced glulam beams and high long-term deflection of the beam midspan. In this study, 15 glulam beams were subjected to a 90-day long-term loading test, and the effects of long-term loading value, reinforcement ratio and prestress level on the stress of steel bars, midspan long-term deflection, and other parameters were compared and analyzed. The main conclusions drawn from this study were that the long-term deflection of the reinforced glulam beams accounted for 22.5%, 20.6%, and 18.2% of… More >

Experimental and Theoretical Study on Bonding Properties between Steel Bar and Bamboo Scrimber

Xiangya Luo, Haiqing Ren, Yong Zhong*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.7, pp. 773-787, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.09414 - 01 June 2020

Abstract To further verify the feasibility of newly designed reinforced bamboo scrimber composite (RBSC) beams used in building construction, the bonding properties between steel bar and bamboo scrimber were investigated by anti-pulling tests. Results indicated that the anti-pulling mechanical properties were signifi- cantly correlated to the diameter, thread form and buried depth of steel bar, forming density of bamboo scrimber as well as the heat treatment of bamboo bundle. There were two failure modes for anti-pulling tests: the tensile fracture and pulling out of steel bar. Both the ultimate load and average shear strength of anti-pulling More >
