    Nadezhda Zubova*, Andrey Ivantsov

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.6, pp. 1407-1424, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.051130 - 27 June 2024

Abstract The study deals with the numerical modeling of leachate distribution in the porous medium located under a municipal solid waste disposal landfill (MSWLF). The considered three-layer system is based on geological data obtained from field measurements. For simplicity, the problem is investigated by assuming a two-component approach. Nevertheless, the heat produced by landfills due to biological and chemical processes and the thermal diffusion mechanism contributing to pollution transport are taken into account. The numerical modeling of the propagation of leachate in the considered layered porous medium is implemented for parameters corresponding to natural soil and More >

Xiangmiao Wan, Yan Tan*, Xiong Long

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 505-524, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2024.049363 - 05 June 2024

Abstract In this study, we assessed the impact of substituting natural fine aggregates with municipal solid waste incineration bottom ash (MSWI-BA) in steel fiber (SF)-reinforced concrete on its compressive properties post high-temperature exposure. The concrete specimens incorporating MSWI-BA as the fine aggregate and SFs for reinforcement underwent uniaxial compression tests after exposure to high temperatures. Through the tests, we investigated the impact of high-temperature exposure on mechanical properties, such as mass loss rate, stress-strain full curve, compressive strength, peak strain, elastic modulus, and so on, over different thermostatic durations. The analysis revealed that with the increasing… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.11, pp. 3977-3989, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.028439 - 31 October 2023

Abstract The problem of low disposal and utilization rate of bulk industrial solid waste needs to be solved. In this paper, a high-activity admixture composed of steel slag-phosphate slag-limestone powder was proposed for most of the solid waste with low activity and a negative impact on concrete workability, combining the characteristics of each solid waste. The paper demonstrates the feasibility and explains the principle of the composite system in terms of water requirement of standard consistency, setting time, workability, and mechanical properties, combined with the composition of the phases, hydration temperature, and microscopic morphology. The results… More > Graphic Abstract

Spatio-Temporal Characteristics of Heat Transfer of Methanation in Fluidized Bed for Pyrolysis and Gasification Syngas of Organic Solid Waste

    Danyang Shao1, Xiaojia Wang1,*, Delu Chen1, Fengxia An1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.10, pp. 3659-3680, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029220 - 10 August 2023

Abstract Methanation is an effective way to efficiently utilize product gas generated from the pyrolysis and gasification of organic solid wastes. To deeply study the heat transfer and mass transfer mechanisms in the reactor, a successful three-dimensional comprehensive model has been established. Multiphase flow behavior and heat transfer mechanisms were investigated under reference working conditions. Temperature is determined by the heat release of the reaction and the heat transfer of the gas-solid flow. The maximum temperature can reach 951 K where the catalyst gathers. In the simulation, changes in the gas inlet velocity and catalyst flow… More >

    Yafei Hu1,2, Keqing Li1,2, Bo Zhang1,2, Bin Han1,2,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.9, pp. 3463-3484, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027532 - 20 July 2023

Abstract The super-fine particle size of tailings is its drawback as a recycled resource, which is reflected in the low strength of the new construction and industrial materials formed when it is mixed with cement and other cementitious materials. Therefore, it is crucial to study the effect of tailings particle size and cementitious material on the strength of tailings wet shotcrete (TWSC) and to investigate the optimal mix proportion. In this paper, a multivariate nonlinear response model was constructed by conducting central composite experiments to investigate the effect of different factors on the strength of TWSC.… More >

Abstract In order to improve the comprehensive utilization rate of high fines sand (HFS) produced by the mine, full solid waste shotcrete (HFS-BFRS) was prepared with HFS as fine aggregate in cooperation with basalt fiber (BF). The strength growth characteristics of HFS-BFRS were analyzed. And the fitting equation of compressive strength growth characteristics of HFS-BFRS under the synergistic effect of multiple factors was given. And based on the orthogonal experimental method, the effects on the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength of HFS-BFRS under the action of different levels of influencing factors were investigated.… More >

Abstract Organic solid waste (OSW) contains many renewable materials. The pyrolysis and gasification of OSW can realize resource utilization, and its products can be used for methanation reaction to produce synthetic natural gas in the specific reactor. In order to understand the dynamic characteristics of the reactor, a three-dimensional numerical model has been established by the method of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Along the height of the reactor, the particle distribution in the bed becomes thinner and the mean solid volume fraction decreases from 4.18% to 0.37%. Meanwhile, the pressure fluctuation range decreased from 398.76 Pa… More > Graphic Abstract
