Ali Abdullah Abbas Baiee, Sasan Asiaei*, Sayed Mostafa Hosseinalipour*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 955-976, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.051532

Abstract Globally, potable water scarcity is pervasive problem. The solar distillation device is a straightforward apparatus that has been purposefully engineered to convert non-potable water into potable water. The experimental study is distinctive due to the implementation of a rotational mechanism within the pyramidal solar still (PSS), which serves to enhance the evaporation and condensation processes. The objective of this research study is to examine the impact of integrating rotational motion into pyramidal solar stills on various processes: water distillation, evaporation, condensation, heat transfer, and energy waste reduction, shadow effects, and low water temperature in saline… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.3, pp. 4725-4740, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.051002

Abstract When designing solar systems and assessing the effectiveness of their many uses, estimating sun irradiance is a crucial first step. This study examined three approaches (ANN, GA-ANN, and ANFIS) for estimating daily global solar radiation (GSR) in the south of Algeria: Adrar, Ouargla, and Bechar. The proposed hybrid GA-ANN model, based on genetic algorithm-based optimization, was developed to improve the ANN model. The GA-ANN and ANFIS models performed better than the standalone ANN-based model, with GA-ANN being better suited for forecasting in all sites, and it performed the best with the best values in the… More > Graphic Abstract

    Sheren Sadiq Hasan1, Zainab Salih Agee2, Bareen Shamsaldeen Tahir3, Subhi R. M. Zeebaree4,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 3225-3238, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.037434

Abstract Solar energy will be a great alternative to fossil fuels since it is clean and renewable. The photovoltaic (PV) mechanism produces sunbeams’ green energy without noise or pollution. The PV mechanism seems simple, seldom malfunctioning, and easy to install. PV energy productivity significantly contributes to smart grids through many small PV mechanisms. Precise solar radiation (SR) prediction could substantially reduce the impact and cost relating to the advancement of solar energy. In recent times, several SR predictive mechanism was formulated, namely artificial neural network (ANN), autoregressive moving average, and support vector machine (SVM). Therefore, this… More >

    Roudouane Laouar1,*, Olaf Wünsch2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.4, pp. 1055-1066, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022677

Abstract In this work, a parametric two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of a solar chimney power plant (a prototype located in Manzanares, Spain) is presented to illustrate the effects of the solar radiation mode in the collector on the plant performances. The simulations rely on a mathematical model that includes solar radiation within the collector; energy storage; air flow and heat transfer, and a turbine. It is based on the Navier-Stokes equation for turbulent flow formulated according to the standard k-ε model. Moreover, the Boussinesq approach is used to account for the fluid density variations. The Impact of Sun Radiation on the Thermal Comfort in Highly Glazed Buildings Equipped with Floor Heating Systems

    Abdelatif Merabtine1,*, Abdelhamid Kheiri2, Salim Mokraoui3, Lyes Bellagh1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.4, pp. 941-951, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.022029

Abstract Occupants of highly glazed buildings often suffer from thermal discomfort during the mid-seasons when no shadings are used in such buildings, especially when inertial heating systems are used. The present study is devoted to evaluating the impact of long solar beam exposure on the internal thermal discomfort in glazed spaces when heating is implemented through a floor system. A comprehensive experimental study is carried out using an experimental bi-climatic chamber which is fully monitored and controlled, allowing realistic simulations of the dynamic movement of the sun patch on a heated slab. The findings show that More >

Abstract Solar energy represents one of the most important renewable energy sources contributing to the energy transition process. Considering that the observation of daily global solar radiation (GSR) is not affordable in some parts of the globe, there is an imperative need to develop alternative ways to predict it. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of different hybrid data-driven techniques in predicting daily GSR in semi-arid regions, such as the majority of Spanish territory. Here, four ensemble-based hybrid models were developed by hybridizing Additive Regression (AR) with Random Forest (RF),… More >

Abstract The utilization of solar energy is essential to all living things since the beginning of time. In addition to being a constant source of energy, solar energy (SE) can also be used to generate heat and electricity. Recent technology enables to convert the solar energy into electricity by using thermal solar heat. Solar energy is perhaps the most easily accessible and plentiful source of sustainable energy. Copper-based nanofluid has been considered as a method to improve solar collector performance by absorbing incoming solar energy directly. The goal of this research is to explore theoretically the… More >

Impact of Flow Rate in Integration with Solar Radiation on Color and COD Removal in Dye Contaminated Textile Industry Wastewater: Optimization Study

    Pradeep K. Majhi1, Rifat Azam1, Richa Kothari2,*, Naveen Kumar Arora1, V. V. Tyagi3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.1, pp. 419-427, 2022, DOI:10.32604/EE.2022.016973

Abstract Dyes are an integral part of the dying industry and have significantly resulted in environmental pollution by altering the standard water quality after their discharge into the water bodies. The culprits behind the altered water quality are the pretreatment chemicals used during dying manufacturing processes. Various advanced treatment methods using conventional and advanced treatment options including solar energy have been put forth by researchers for the treatment of the dying effluents but, these methods have not proved significantly considerable. Therefore, the present study intends to check the efficiency of solar parabolic trough collector for treating… More >

    Sathish Babu Pandu1,*, A. Sagai Francis Britto2, Pudi Sekhar3, P. Vijayarajan4, Amani Abdulrahman Albraikan5, Fahd N. Al-Wesabi6, Mesfer Al Duhayyim7

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 109-124, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021015

Abstract Solar energy has gained attention in the past two decades, since it is an effective renewable energy source that causes no harm to the environment. Solar Irradiation Prediction (SIP) is essential to plan, schedule, and manage photovoltaic power plants and grid-based power generation systems. Numerous models have been proposed for SIP in the literature while such studies demand huge volumes of weather data about the target location for a lengthy period of time. In this scenario, commonly available Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique can be trained over past values of irradiance as well as weather-related parameters… More >

Abstract In the present study, an analysis of the heat and mass transfer in a ventilated cavity in a warm climate zone was carried out to analyze, among others, the temperatures and percentage of relative humidity (RH). The governing equations of the mathematical model were solved through the finite volume method. We used the k-ε turbulence mode to find the results of the variables of interest in seven climate records on a given day. The velocity of the inlet flow of the air-H2O mixture was varied through the Reynolds number (Re) from 500 to 10000. The outdoor weather… More >
