Tensile Strain Capacity Prediction of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) Using Soft Computing Techniques

    Rabar H. Faraj1,*, Hemn Unis Ahmed2,3, Hardi Saadullah Fathullah4, Alan Saeed Abdulrahman2, Farid Abed5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2925-2954, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.029392 - 15 December 2023

Abstract Plain concrete is strong in compression but brittle in tension, having a low tensile strain capacity that can significantly degrade the long-term performance of concrete structures, even when steel reinforcing is present. In order to address these challenges, short polymer fibers are randomly dispersed in a cement-based matrix to form a highly ductile engineered cementitious composite (ECC). This material exhibits high ductility under tensile forces, with its tensile strain being several hundred times greater than conventional concrete. Since concrete is inherently weak in tension, the tensile strain capacity (TSC) has become one of the most… More >

Improved Network Validity Using Various Soft Computing Techniques

    M. Yuvaraju*, R. Elakkiyavendan

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1465-1477, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032417 - 05 January 2023

Abstract Nowadays, when a life span of sensor nodes are threatened by the shortage of energy available for communication, sink mobility is an excellent technique for increasing its lifespan. When communicating via a WSN, the use of nodes as a transmission method eliminates the need for a physical medium. Sink mobility in a dynamic network topology presents a problem for sensor nodes that have reserved resources. Unless the route is revised and changed to reflect the location of the mobile sink location, it will be inefficient for delivering data effectively. In the clustering strategy, nodes are… More >

Improving Power Quality by DSTATCOM Based DQ Theory with Soft Computing Techniques

    V. Nandagopal1,*, T. S. Balaji Damodhar2, P. Vijayapriya3, A. Thamilmaran3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1315-1329, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032039 - 05 January 2023

    Abstract

The development of non-linear loads at consumers has significantly impacted power supply systems. Since, the poor power quality has been found in the three-phase distribution system due to unbalanced loads, harmonic current, undesired voltage regulation, and extreme reactive power demand. To overcome this issue, Distributed STATicCOMpensator (DSTATCOM) is implemented. DSTATCOM is a shunt-connected Voltage Source Converter (VSC) that has been utilized in distribution networks to balance the bus voltage in terms of enhancing reactive power control and power factor. DSTATCOM can provide both rapid and continuous capacitive and inductive mode compensation. A rectified resistive and

    Waleed Rafique1, Ayesha Khan2, Ahmad Almogren3, Jehangir Arshad1, Adnan Yousaf4, Mujtaba Hussain Jaffery1, Ateeq Ur Rehman5, Muhammad Shafiq6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 4275-4293, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023588 - 14 January 2022

Abstract An excessive use of non-linear devices in industry results in current harmonics that degrades the power quality with an unfavorable effect on power system performance. In this research, a novel control technique-based Hybrid-Active Power-Filter (HAPF) is implemented for reactive power compensation and harmonic current component for balanced load by improving the Power-Factor (PF) and Total–Hormonic Distortion (THD) and the performance of a system. This work proposed a soft-computing technique based on Particle Swarm-Optimization (PSO) and Adaptive Fuzzy technique to avoid the phase delays caused by conventional control methods. Moreover, the control algorithms are implemented for… More >

Maximizing Throughput in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network using Soft Computing Techniques

    Krishnan Muthumayil1,*, Thangaiyan Jayasankar2, Nagappan Krishnaraj3, Mohamed Yacin Sikkandar4, Prakash Nattanmai Balasubramanian5, Chokkalingam Bharatiraja6

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 771-784, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.012462 - 01 March 2021

Abstract Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSN) provides valuable information for scalar data, images, audio, and video processing in monitoring and surveillance applications. Multimedia streaming, however, is highly challenging for networks as energy restriction sensor nodes limit the potential data transmission bandwidth and lead to reduced throughput. WMSN’s two key design challenges, which can be achieved by the clustering process, are energy efficiency and throughput maximization. The use of the clustering technique helps to organise the sensor nodes into clusters, and between each cluster a cluster head (CH) will be chosen. This paper introduces a new Artificial… More >

Hybrid Soft Computing Technique Based Trust Evaluation Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

    Supreet Kaur*, Vijay Kumar Joshi

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 217-226, 2020, DOI:10.31209/2018.100000064

Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are susceptible to safety threats due to cumulative dependence upon transmission, computing, and control mechanisms. Therefore, securing the end-to-end communication becomes a major area of research in WSNs. A majority of existing protocols are based upon signature and recommended-based trust evaluation techniques only. However, these techniques are vulnerable to wormhole attacks that happen due to lesser synchronization between the sensor nodes. Therefore, to handle this problem, a novel hybrid crossover-based ant colony optimization-based routing protocol is proposed. An integrated modified signature and recommendationbased trust evaluation protocol for WSNs is presented. Extensive More >

Abstract A method that uses fuzzy logic to classify two simple speech features for the automatic classification of voiced and unvoiced phonemes is proposed. In addition, two variants, in which soft computing techniques are used to enhance the performance of fuzzy logic by tuning the parameters of the membership functions, are also presented. The three methods, manually constructed fuzzy logic (VUFL), fuzzy logic optimized with genetic algorithm (VUFL-GA), and fuzzy logic with optimized particle swarm optimization (VUFL-PSO), are implemented and then evaluated using the TIMIT speech corpus. Performance is evaluated using the TIMIT database in both More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 201-228, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.031.201

Abstract Soft computing methods play an important role in the design and optimization in diverse engineering disciplines including those in the electromagnetic applications. The aim of these soft computing methods is to tolerate imprecision, uncertainties, and approximations to achieve a quick solution, which is both robust and economically viable. Soft computing methods such as genetic algorithm, neural network and fuzzy logic have been widely used by researchers for microwave design since the last decade. The metamaterial multilayer concept in conjunction with transformation optics leads to exciting applications in the microwave regime with such examples as invisible More >
