    Abstract Predicting the response of liquefied natural gas (LNG) contained in vessels subjected to external waves is extremely important to ensure the safety of the transportation process.     Abstract A coupled numerical calculation method combining smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) and the finite element method (FEM) was implemented to investigate the seismic response of horizontal storage tanks.     Abstract

    In this paper, the equal-norm multiple-scale Trefftz method combined with the implicit Lie-group scheme is applied to solve the two-dimensional nonlinear sloshing problem with baffles. When considering solving sloshing problems with baffles by using boundary integral methods, degenerate geometry and problems of numerical instability are inevitable. To avoid numerical instability, the multiple-scale characteristic lengths are introduced into T-complete basis functions to efficiently govern the high-order oscillation disturbance. Again, the numerical noise propagation at each time step is eliminated by the vector regularization method and the group-preserving scheme.     Abstract The violent free-surface motions and the corresponding impact loads are numerically simulated by using the refined Moving Particle Simulation (MPS) method, which was originally proposed by Koshizuka and Oka (1996) for incompressible flows.     Abstract The coupling and interactions between vessel motion and inner-tank sloshing are investigated by a potential-CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) hybrid method in time domain. Potential-theory-based 3D diffraction/radiation panel program is used to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients and wave forces for the simulation of vessel motion in time domain.
