    Shangjun Gao1,2, Yang Yang1, Man Chen1, Jian Zheng1, Luqi Qin2,*, Xiangyu Liu2, Jianying Yang1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.11, pp. 3305-3329, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.053622 - 21 October 2024

Abstract Horizontal well drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing are key technologies for the development of shale gas reservoirs. Instantaneous acquisition of hydraulic fracture parameters is crucial for evaluating fracturing effectiveness, optimizing processes, and predicting gas productivity. This paper establishes a transient flow model for shale gas wells based on the boundary element method, achieving the characterization of stimulated reservoir volume for a single stage. By integrating pressure monitoring data following the pumping shut-in period of hydraulic fracturing for well testing interpretation, a workflow for inverting fracture parameters of shale gas wells is established. Optimizing the Diameter of Plugging Balls in Deep Shale Gas Wells

    Yi Song1, Zheyu Hu2,*, Cheng Shen1, Lan Ren2, Xingwu Guo1, Ran Lin2, Kun Wang3, Zhiyong Zhao4

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.3, pp. 609-624, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.030521 - 12 January 2024

Abstract Deep shale gas reserves that have been fractured typically have many relatively close perforation holes. Due to the proximity of each fracture during the formation of the fracture network, there is significant stress interference, which results in uneven fracture propagation. It is common practice to use “balls” to temporarily plug fracture openings in order to lessen liquid intake and achieve uniform propagation in each cluster. In this study, a diameter optimization model is introduced for these plugging balls based on a multi-cluster fracture propagation model and a perforation dynamic abrasion model. This approach relies on More > Graphic Abstract

Simulation of Two-Phase Flowback Phenomena in Shale Gas Wells

Yongwei Duan, Zhaopeng Zhu, Hui He*, Gaoliang Xuan, Xuemeng Yu

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.2, pp. 349-364, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.042659 - 14 December 2023

Abstract The gas-water two-phase flow occurring as a result of fracturing fluid flowback phenomena is known to impact significantly the productivity of shale gas well. In this work, this two-phase flow has been simulated in the framework of a hybrid approach partially relying on the embedded discrete fracture model (EDFM). This model assumes the region outside the stimulated reservoir volume (SRV) as a single-medium while the SRV region itself is described using a double-medium strategy which can account for the fluid exchange between the matrix and the micro-fractures. The shale gas adsorption, desorption, diffusion, gas slippage… More >

An Artificial Intelligence Algorithm for the Real-Time Early Detection of Sticking Phenomena in Horizontal Shale Gas Wells

Qing Wang*, Haige Wang, Hongchun Huang, Lubin Zhuo, Guodong Ji

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2569-2578, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025349 - 25 June 2023

Abstract Sticking is the most serious cause of failure in complex drilling operations. In the present work a novel “early warning” method based on an artificial intelligence algorithm is proposed to overcome some of the known problems associated with existing sticking-identification technologies. The method is tested against a practical case study (Southern Sichuan shale gas drilling operations). It is shown that the twelve sets of sticking fault diagnostic results obtained from a simulation are all consistent with the actual downhole state; furthermore, the results from four groups of verification samples are also consistent with the actual More >

A Dynamic Plunger Lift Model for Shale Gas Wells

    Shiyu Miao1,2,3, Xiao Liu4, Xiaoya Feng6, Haowen Shi1,2,3, Wei Luo1,2,3,*, Peng Liu5

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1735-1751, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025681 - 08 March 2023

Abstract At present, the optimization of the plunger mechanism is shale gas wells is mostly based on empirical methods, which lack a relevant rationale and often are not able to deal with the quick variations experienced by the production parameters of shale gas wells in comparison to conventional gas wells. In order to mitigate this issue, in the present work, a model is proposed to loosely couple the dynamics of gas inflow into shale gas wells with the dynamics of the liquid inflow. Starting from the flow law that accounts for the four stages of movement More > Graphic Abstract

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 933-955, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019736 - 06 April 2022

Abstract The problem of efficient gas lift for gas well annulus packers that rely on their own energy plungers is considered. The complex related gas-liquid problem is addressed in the frame of model where the gas inflow dynamics and liquid inflow dynamics of the considered shale gas wells are weakly coupled. On this basis, and with the aiding support of indoor simulation experimental data, a new gas plunger lift design taking into account liquid leakage is obtained. Finally, a dedicated software relying on this approach is developed and used to verify the reliability of the model More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.15, No.5, pp. 613-625, 2019, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2019.08782

Abstract One of the important indicators of shale gas reservoir excavation is capacity evaluation, which directly affects whether large-scale shale gas reservoirs can be excavated. Capacity evaluation is the basis of system analysis and dynamic prediction. Therefore, it is particularly important to conduct capacity evaluation studies on shale gas horizontal wells. In order to accurately evaluate the horizontal well productivity of shale gas staged fracturing, this paper uses a new method to evaluate the productivity of Fuling shale gas. The new method is aimed at the dynamic difference of horizontal wells and effectively analyzes the massive More >

A Reasonable Approach for the Development of Shale Gas Wells with Consideration of the Stress Sensitivity

    Jin Pang1,*, Di Luo2, Haohong Gao3, Jie Liang4, Yuanyuan Huang1, Qi Liu3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.15, No.1, pp. 39-51, 2019, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2019.06136

Abstract High-pressure deep shale gas reservoirs are usually highly stress-sensitive. When the reasonable production mode of shale gas well is built, the impact of strong stress sensitivity should be fully considered. First, this study calculated the relationship between permeability and formation pressure under different elastic modulus based on the shale lithology of Long Ma Xi formation in Sichuan Basin by testing and analysing the mechanical parameters of the rock. According to numerical simulation result, when the elastic modulus exceeds 14.0 GPa, the stress sensitivity of the matrix will slight affect the cumulative gas production of shale… More >
