Abstract The global population has been and will continue to be severely impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic. The primary objective of this research is to demonstrate the future impact of COVID-19 on those who suffer from other fatal conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. Here, using ordinary differential equations (ODEs), two mathematical models are developed to explain the association between COVID-19 and cancer and between COVID-19 and diabetes and heart disease. After that, we highlight the stability assessments that can be applied to these models. Sensitivity analysis is used to examine how changes in certain factors impact different aspects… More >

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.37, No.1-2, pp. 55-76, 2020, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2020.37.1-2.5

Abstract Poly(N,N-dimethymethylacrylamide -co-crotonic acid) (P(DMA-CAx)) hydrogels were prepared by free radical polymerization, using N,N- methylenebisacrylamide (NMBA) as cross-linking agent. The synthesized hydrogels were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The effects of comonomer composition and pH of the medium on the swelling behavior of hydrogels were investigated. The obtained results showed that the swelling capabilities of hydrogels increased as crotonic acid content and pH increased. In order to evaluate the controlled release potential of the polymeric matrix, it was loaded with potassium nitrate and ammonium nitrate as fertilizers and the release kinetics was studied as a… More >

ON UNCERTAINTY AND LOCAL SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS FOR STEADY-STATE CONJUGATE HEAT TRANSFER PROBLEMS PART 1: EMISSIVITY, FLUID TEMPERATURE, AND CONDUCTANCE

    Christian Rauch*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.2, No.3, pp. 1-8, 2011, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v2.3.3006

Abstract In recent years, significant effort has been placed into developing automated multi-physics simulation. The exchange of boundary conditions has lead to more realistic as well as more complex simulations with usually slower convergence rate when the coupling is being performed between two different codes. In this paper the equations of local sensitivities for element centered steady-state combined convection, conduction, and thermal radiation problems are being derived. A numerical analysis on the stability of the solution matrix is being conducted. Partial uncertainties and the relative importance of the heat transfer modes are investigated by their uncertainty factors and conclusions are being… More >

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.58, pp. 119-131, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sv.2024.048861

Abstract Noise is one of the environmental factors with mental and physical effects. The workload is also the multiple mental and physical demands of the task. Therefore, his study investigated the relationship between noise exposure and mood states at different levels of workload. The study recruited 50 workers from the manufacturing sector (blue-collar workers) as the exposed group and 50 workers from the office sector (white-collar workers) as the control group. Their occupational noise exposure was measured by dosimetry. The Stress-Arousal Checklist (SACL) and the NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) were used to measure mood and workload, respectively. The equivalent noise… More >

    Muhammad Shoaib Arif1,2,*, Kamaleldin Abodayeh1, Yasir Nawaz2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.3, pp. 3417-3434, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.046944

Abstract This study focuses on the urgent requirement for improved accuracy in disease modeling by introducing a new computational framework called the Hybrid SIR-Fuzzy Model. By integrating the traditional Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered (SIR) model with fuzzy logic, our method effectively addresses the complex nature of epidemic dynamics by accurately accounting for uncertainties and imprecisions in both data and model parameters. The main aim of this research is to provide a model for disease transmission using fuzzy theory, which can successfully address uncertainty in mathematical modeling. Our main emphasis is on the imprecise transmission rate parameter, utilizing a three-part description of its membership level.… More >

    Zhongming Hu1,*, Leilei Chen1, Delei Yang1, Jichao Zhang1, Youyang Xin1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-3, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09340

Abstract Functionally graded materials (FGMs), a kind of composite materials, were proposed to satisfy the requirements of thermal barrier materials initially [1-3]. Compared with traditional composites, the microstructure and mechanical characteristics of FGMs change continuously which make them present excellent performance in deformation resistance or toughness under extreme mechanical and thermal loadings [4]. Therefore, FGMs have been paid much attention and experienced rapid developments in the last decade. Nowadays, various structural components manufactured by FGMs have been used in extensive applications, such as aerospace, bioengineering, nuclear industries, civil constructions etc. [5-7]
While, FG Euler-Bernoulli beams maybe suffer damage in practical… More >

    HONGYUAN LIANG1,#, YANQIU LI2,#, YONGGANG QU3, LINGYUN ZHANG4,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 393-407, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.031134

Abstract Advanced LUAD shows limited response to treatment including immune therapy. With the development of sequencing omics, it is urgent to combine high-throughput multi-omics data to identify new immune checkpoint therapeutic response markers. Using GSE72094 (n = 386) and GSE31210 (n = 226) gene expression profile data in the GEO database, we identified genes associated with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) death using tools such as “edgeR” and “maftools” and visualized the characteristics of these genes using the “circlize” R package. We constructed a prognostic model based on death-related genes and optimized the model using LASSO-Cox regression methods. By calculating the cell death… More >

Productivity Prediction Model of Perforated Horizontal Well Based on Permeability Calculation in Near-Well High Permeability Reservoir Area

    Shuangshuang Zhang1,*, Kangliang Guo1, Xinchen Gao1, Haoran Yang1, Jinfeng Zhang2, Xing Han3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.1, pp. 59-75, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.041709

Abstract To improve the productivity of oil wells, perforation technology is usually used to improve the productivity of horizontal wells in oilfield exploitation. After the perforation operation, the perforation channel around the wellbore will form a near-well high-permeability reservoir area with the penetration depth as the radius, that is, the formation has different permeability characteristics with the perforation depth as the dividing line. Generally, the permeability is measured by the permeability tester, but this approach has a high workload and limited application. In this paper, according to the reservoir characteristics of perforated horizontal wells, the reservoir is divided into two areas:… More >

Fault Identification for Shear-Type Structures Using Low-Frequency Vibration Modes

    Cuihong Li1, Qiuwei Yang2,3,*, Xi Peng2,3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2769-2791, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030908

Abstract Shear-type structures are common structural forms in industrial and civil buildings, such as concrete and steel frame structures. Fault diagnosis of shear-type structures is an important topic to ensure the normal use of structures. The main drawback of existing damage assessment methods is that they require accurate structural finite element models for damage assessment. However, for many shear-type structures, it is difficult to obtain accurate FEM. In order to avoid finite element modeling, a model-free method for diagnosing shear structure defects is developed in this paper. This method only needs to measure a few low-order vibration modes of the structure.… More >

Study of Intelligent Approaches to Identify Impact of Environmental Temperature on Ultrasonic GWs Based SHM: A Review

    Saqlain Abbas1,2,*, Zulkarnain Abbas3, Xiaotong Tu4, Yanping Zhu2

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.5, pp. 43-56, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jai.2023.040948

Abstract Structural health monitoring (SHM) is considered an effective approach to analyze the efficient working of several mechanical components. For this purpose, ultrasonic guided waves can cover long-distance and assess large infrastructures in just a single test using a small number of transducers. However, the working of the SHM mechanism can be affected by some sources of variations (i.e., environmental). To improve the final results of ultrasonic guided wave inspections, it is necessary to highlight and attenuate these environmental variations. The loading parameters, temperature and humidity have been recognized as the core environmental sources of variations that affect the SHM sensing… More >
