Modeling, Simulation, and Risk Analysis of Battery Energy Storage Systems in New Energy Grid Integration Scenarios

    Xiaohui Ye1,*, Fucheng Tan1, Xinli Song2, Hanyang Dai2, Xia Li2, Shixia Mu2, Shaohang Hao2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.12, pp. 3689-3710, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.055200 - 22 November 2024

Abstract Energy storage batteries can smooth the volatility of renewable energy sources. The operating conditions during power grid integration of renewable energy can affect the performance and failure risk of battery energy storage system (BESS). However, the current modeling of grid-connected BESS is overly simplistic, typically only considering state of charge (SOC) and power constraints. Detailed lithium (Li)-ion battery cell models are computationally intensive and impractical for real-time applications and may not be suitable for power grid operating conditions. Additionally, there is a lack of real-time batteries risk assessment frameworks. To address these issues, in this… More >

Risk Analysis Using Multi-Source Data for Distribution Networks Facing Extreme Natural Disasters

Jun Yang*, Nannan Wang, Jiang Wang, Yashuai Luo

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.9, pp. 2079-2096, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028653 - 03 August 2023

Abstract Distribution networks denote important public infrastructure necessary for people’s livelihoods. However, extreme natural disasters, such as earthquakes, typhoons, and mudslides, severely threaten the safe and stable operation of distribution networks and power supplies needed for daily life. Therefore, considering the requirements for distribution network disaster prevention and mitigation, there is an urgent need for in-depth research on risk assessment methods of distribution networks under extreme natural disaster conditions. This paper accesses multi-source data, presents the data quality improvement methods of distribution networks, and conducts data-driven active fault diagnosis and disaster damage analysis and evaluation using More >

New Ranking of Generalized Quadrilateral Shape Fuzzy Number Using Centroid Technique

    A. Thiruppathi*, C. K. Kirubhashankar

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 2253-2266, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.033870 - 05 January 2023

Abstract The output of the fuzzy set is reduced by one for the defuzzification procedure. It is employed to provide a comprehensible outcome from a fuzzy inference process. This page provides further information about the defuzzification approach for quadrilateral fuzzy numbers, which may be used to convert them into discrete values. Defuzzification demonstrates how useful fuzzy ranking systems can be. Our major purpose is to develop a new ranking method for generalized quadrilateral fuzzy numbers. The primary objective of the research is to provide a novel approach to the accurate evaluation of various kinds of fuzzy… More >

Earthquake Risk Assessment Approach Using Multiple Spatial Parameters for Shelter Demands

    Wenquan Jin1, Naeem Iqbal2, Hee-Cheal Kang3, Dohyeun Kim2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.2, pp. 3763-3780, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020336 - 27 September 2021

Abstract The earthquake is considered one of the most devastating disasters in any area of the world due to its potentially destructive force. Based on the various earthquake-related parameters, the risk assessment is enabled in advance to prevent future earthquake disasters. In this paper, for providing the shelter space demands to reduce the damage level and prevention costs, an earthquake risk assessment approach is proposed for deriving the risk index based on multiple spatial parameters in the gridded map. The proposed assessment approach is comprised of pre-processing, methodology model, and data visualization. The risk index model… More >

Reliability Analysis of Piled Raft Foundation Using a Novel Hybrid Approach of ANN and Equilibrium Optimizer

    Abidhan Bardhan1, Priyadip Manna1, Vinay Kumar1, Avijit Burman1, Bojan Žlender2, Pijush Samui1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.3, pp. 1033-1067, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.015885 - 11 August 2021

Abstract In many civil engineering projects, Piled Raft Foundations (PRFs) are usually preferred where the incoming load from the superstructures is very high. In geotechnical engineering practice, the settlement of soil layers is a critical issue for the serviceability of the structures. Thus, assessment of risk associated with the structures corresponding to the maximum allowable settlement of soils needs to be carried out in the design phase. In this study, reliability analysis of PRF based on settlement criteria is performed using a high-performance hybrid soft computing model. The new approach is an integration of the artificial… More >

A Risk Poker Based Testing Model for Scrum

Siti Noor Hasanah Ghazali1, Siti Salwah Salim1,*, Irum Inayat2, Siti Hafizah Ab Hamid1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 169-185, 2018, DOI:10.32604/csse.2018.33.169

Abstract In agile software development, project estimation often depends on group discussion and expert opinions. Literature claims that group discussion in risk analysis helps to identify some of the crucial issues that might affect development, testing, and implementation. However, risk prioritization often relies on individual expert judgment. Therefore, Risk Poker, a lightweight risk-based testing methodology in which risk analysis is performed through group discussion that outperforms the individual analyst’s estimation is introduced in agile methods. Keeping in view aforementioned benefits Risk Poker can offer, unfortunately, no study has been conducted to empirically prove its ability to… More >

Risk simulation of nanomaterials pollution in power engineering

    A.A.Bayramov1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.15, No.1, pp. 19-26, 2010, DOI:10.3970/icces.2010.015.019

Abstract As we know, anthropogenic activities of Power Engineering create wastewater and air pollution, lead to aerosol attenuation of solar radiation and to growth of entropy on the Earth and, as result, climate change. The human Power activities disturb heat and entropy balance and impair ecology. Also, this leads to greenhouse effect and, as result, to climate change. Wastewater in river and sea basins as well as air pollution can influence an exchange of energy between sunlight on the Earth and long-wave radiation leaving in space.

Uncertainty Analysis for a Particle Model of Granular Chute Flow

    F. Fleissner1, T. Haag2, M. Hanss2, P. Eberhard1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.52, No.2, pp. 181-196, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.052.181

Abstract In alpine regions human settlements and infrastructure are at risk to be hit by landslides or other types of geological flows. This paper presents a new approach that can aid the design of protective constructions. An uncertainty analysis of the flow around a debris barrier is carried out using a chute flow laboratory model of the actual debris flow. A series of discrete element simulations thereby serves to compare and assess two different barrier designs. In this study, the transformation method of fuzzy arithmetic is used to investigate the influence of epistemically uncertain model parameters. More >
