    Sound & Vibration, Vol.57, pp. 45-68, 2023, DOI:10.32604/sv.2023.043279 - 10 November 2023

Abstract The hub-driven virtual rail train is a novel urban transportation system that amalgamates the benefits of modern trams and buses. However, this system is plagued by issues such as decreased ride comfort and severe deformation of urban roads due to the increase in sprung mass and long-term rolling at the same position. To address these concerns and improve the human-vehicle-road friendliness of the virtual rail train, we propose an Improved Sky-Ground Hook and Acceleration-Driven Damper control (Improved SH-GH-ADD control) strategy for the semi-active suspension system. This control monitors the vibration acceleration signal of the unsprung More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.3, pp. 2287-2306, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.022432 - 23 November 2022

Abstract This research aims to quantify driver ride comfort due to changes in damper characteristics between comfort mode and sport mode, considering the vehicle’s inertial behavior. The comfort of riding in an automobile has been evaluated in recent years on the basis of a subjective sensory evaluation given by the driver. However, reflecting driving sensations in design work to improve ride comfort is abstract in nature and difficult to express theoretically. Therefore, we evaluated the human body’s effects while driving scientifically by quantifying the driver’s behavior while operating the steering wheel and the behavior of the… More > Graphic Abstract

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.60, No.2, pp. 455-463, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05664

Abstract Passenger comfort is an important indicator that is often used to measure the quality of public transport services. It may also be a crucial factor in the passenger’s choice of transport mode. The typical method of assessing passenger comfort is through a passenger interview survey which can be tedious. This study aims to investigate the relationship between bus ride comfort based on ride smoothness and the vehicle’s motion detected by the smartphone sensors. An experiment was carried out on a bus fixed route within the University campus where comfort levels were rated on a 3-point… More >

Interval Uncertain Optimization of Vehicle Suspension for Ride Comfort

    C. Jiang1,2, S. Yu1, H.C. Xie1, B.C. Li1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.98, No.4, pp. 443-467, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.098.443

Abstract Based on the interval analysis method, this paper proposes an uncertain optimization model for the ride comfort in vehicles and achieves the optimal design of vehicle ride comfort under the condition of complicated uncertainty. The spring stiffness and shock absorber damping of suspension is regarded as the design parameters, while the root mean square (RMS) of the vehicle body acceleration is treated as the design objective and the corresponding constraints are composed of suspension stiffness, natural frequency and RMS of suspension dynamic deflection. Moreover, the uncertainties of key parameters, such as sprung mass, tire stiffness, More >
