Heartbeat and Respiration Rate Prediction Using Combined Photoplethysmography and Ballisto Cardiography

    Valarmathi Ramasamy1,*, Dhandapani Samiappan2, R. Ramesh3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1365-1380, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032155 - 05 January 2023

Abstract Owing to the recent trends in remote health monitoring, real-time applications for measuring Heartbeat Rate and Respiration Rate (HARR) from video signals are growing rapidly. Photo Plethysmo Graphy (PPG) is a method that is operated by estimating the infinitesimal change in color of the human face, rigid motion of facial skin and head parts, etc. Ballisto Cardiography (BCG) is a nonsurgical tool for obtaining a graphical depiction of the human body’s heartbeat by inducing repetitive movements found in the heart pulses. The resilience against motion artifacts induced by luminance fluctuation and the patient’s mobility variation… More >

Effects of Fertilization on Soil CO2 Efflux in Chinese Hickory (Carya cathayensis) Stand

    Juan Liu1,2,*, Meiqun Zheng1, Xueshuang Chen1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 271-283, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023397 - 06 September 2022

Abstract Chinese hickory (Carya cathayensis Sarg.) is a popular nut tree in China, but there is little information about the influences of fertilization on soil CO2 efflux and soil microbial biomass. This study evaluated the short-term effects of different fertilizer applications on soil CO2 efflux and soil microbial biomass in Chinese hickory stands. Four fertilizer treatments were established: control (CK, no fertilizer), inorganic fertilizer (IF), organic fertilizer (OF), and equal parts organic and inorganic N fertilizers (OIF). A field experiment was conducted to measure soil CO2 effluxes using closed chamber and gas chromatography techniques. Regardless of the fertilization practices,… More >

Seasonal Changes in Soil Respiration with An Elevation Gradient in Abies nephrolepis (Trautv.) Maxim. Forests in North China

    Zhijie Tian1,*, Xueying Jia2, Tingting Liu1, Eryan Ma1, Lamei Xue1, Yanqiu Hu1, Qingrong Zheng1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.7, pp. 1543-1556, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.020329 - 14 March 2022

Abstract Soil respiration (Rs) plays an important role in regulating carbon cycle of terrestrial ecosystems and presents temporal and spatial heterogeneity. Abies nephrolepis is a tree species that prefers the cold and wet environment and is mainly distributed in Northeast Asia and East Asia. The Rs variations of Abies nephrolepis forests communities are generally environmental-sensitive and can effectively reflect the adaptive responses of forest ecosystems to climate change. In this study, the growing-seasonal variations of Rs, soil temperature, soil water content and soil properties of Abies nephrolepis forests were analyzed along an altitude gradient (2000, 2100, 2200 and 2300… More >

Effects of Piriformospora indica on the Respiration of Taxus chinensis var. mairei under Water Stress

Longsheng Hu, Xinru He, Pujie Wei, Bing Sun, Yongjun Fei, Die Hu*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.6, pp. 1661-1672, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.015871 - 28 June 2021

Abstract Seedlings of Taxus chinensis var. mairei were used as experimental materials to study the adaptation of Piriformospora indica to this plant under water stress. The materials were divided into two groups, namely, with or without inoculation with P. indica. Each group was subjected to four different levels of water stress. Vitality and physiological and biochemical indexes of the roots of T. chinensis var. mairei were regularly measured. Under water stress, T. chinensis var. mairei had significantly decreased root vitality; root vitality was higher in inoculated roots than in uninoculated roots. Under intense water stress, the inoculated roots had a higher soluble sugar… More >

Modeling of Heart Rate Variability Using Time-Frequency Representations

    Ghaylen Laouini1, Ibrahim Mahariq1, Thabet Abdeljawad2,3,4,*, Hasan Aksoy5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 1289-1299, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018411 - 04 June 2021

Abstract The heart rate variability signal is highly correlated with the respiration even at high workload exercise. It is also known that this phenomenon still exists during increasing exercise. In the current study, we managed to model this correlation during increasing exercise using the time varying integral pulse frequency modulation (TVIPFM) model that relates the mechanical modulation (MM) to the respiration and the cardiac rhythm. This modulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is able to simultaneously decrease sympathetic and increase parasympathetic activity. The TVIPFM model takes into consideration the effect of the increasing exercise test,… More >

CO2 Assimilation Rate in Production Systems for Papaya Crops

    R. Ariza-Flores1, D. Trujillo-García2, M. A. Otero-Sánchez2, E. Canales Sosa2, C. H. Avendaño-Arrazate3,*, L. A. Gálvez-Marroquín4, P. Cadena Iñiguez5

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.3, pp. 933-947, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.013227 - 30 March 2021

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate some physiological aspects of papaya crops in semi conventional and organic production systems. The following factors assessed in this experiment were: 1. Production systems (organic and semi conventional); 2. Genotypes (Maradol and Maradona F1), and 3. Cover crop plants (Canavalia, vegetative cover and no cover). Twelve treatments were obtained -product of factors’ combination- and distributed under a threerepetition experimental design of subdivided parcels. The factors examined in this study, that changed the CO2 assimilation rate, were production system and genotype. It was determined that the greatest gas exchange More >

Analysis of methodologies for the study of composition and biochemical carbohydrate changes in harvest and postharvest onion bulbs

Abrameto MA, CM Pozzo Ardizzi, MI Gil, LM Molina

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.79, pp. 123-132, 2010, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2010.79.123

Abstract Costly investments in storage and transport of onion bulbs makes it increasingly important to identify cultivars with the best chance of long-term storage. This paper discusses our own and other researchers’ results and laboratory procedures on onion’s pungency, soluble solids, dry matter, respiration rate, carbohydrates and catabolism-related enzymes under different storage conditions. The variability in parameters such as carbohydrate composition, pungency, soluble solids and soluble uronic acid concentration in water is growth dependent, and defines the quality of onion bulbs at harvest time. During storage, these parameters can be modified by environmental conditions, presence of More >
