Energy Efficient and Intelligent Mosquito Repellent Fuzzy Control System

    Aaqib Inam1, Zhu Li1,*, Salah-ud-din Khokhar2, Zubia Zafar3, Muhammad Imran4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.1, pp. 699-715, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.039707 - 31 October 2023

Abstract Mosquitoes are of great concern for occasionally carrying noxious diseases (dengue, malaria, zika, and yellow fever). To control mosquitoes, it is very crucial to effectively monitor their behavioral trends and presence. Traditional mosquito repellent works by heating small pads soaked in repellant, which then diffuses a protected area around you, a great alternative to spraying yourself with insecticide. But they have limitations, including the range, turning them on manually, and then waiting for the protection to kick in when the mosquitoes may find you. This research aims to design a fuzzy-based controller to solve the… More >

Repellent and Insecticidal Activity of Naphthoquinones from the Heartwood of Tectona grandis on Incisitermes marginipennis (Latreille)

Crisanto Velázquez-Becerra1,*, Gu Yen Ambriz-Ortiz1, Rafael Torres-Martínez2, Mauro Manuel Martínez-Pacheco3

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.7, pp. 2165-2181, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.026954 - 29 May 2023

Abstract Wood is a lignocellulosic material that, because of its organic nature, is a source of nutrients for bacteria, fungi, and insects. Incisitermes marginipennis (Latreille) is an interesting dry wood-boring termite. Because it is an extremely destructive pest, difficult to control due to its cryptic lifestyle, and for its role in the biogeochemical cycle of carbon and other elements; it is a fundamental organism. The use of less toxic and eco-friendly substances is important for protecting domestic, cultural, and historical heritage made of wood or lignocellulosic materials. The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological… More >

Antifeedant Activity of Caesalpinia coriaria Essential Oil Against Incisitermes marginipennis (Latreille)

    Cesar B. Ramírez-López1,2, Rita Beltrán-Sánchez1, Alistair Hernández-Izquierdo1, José Luis SalvadorHernández1, Eduardo Salcedo-Pérez2, Rosa E. del Río1, Mauro M. Martínez Pacheco1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.3, pp. 907-920, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.013775 - 30 March 2021

Abstract This study scrutinized the possibility of finding toxicant or deterrent plant metabolites against the dry wood termite Incisitermes marginipennis (Latreille). Plant deterrent agents act as repellents or antifeedants to prevent wood decay and increase its useful life. The potential of the tree Caesalpinia coriaria (Fabaceae) as a biological source of molecules with deterrent effects against the dry wood termite was assessed by a phytochemical fractionation guided by repellence and antifeedant activities. The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of the leaf essential oil showed geraniol to be one of the major components and its repellent and antifeedant effects were… More >

Water Repellency of Cellulosic Fibrous Mats Impregnated with Organic Solutions Based on Recycled Polystyrene

    Dafni Foti1, Costas Passialis1, Elias Voulgaridis1, Stergios Adamopoulos2,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.1, pp. 85-96, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.011868 - 30 November 2020

Abstract Recycled polystyrene in combination with paraffin wax, alkyd resin, and gum rosin were used as components in formulations to investigate their water repellency when applied to cellulosic filter paper substrates. Polystyrene was used in concentration of 5, 10, 15 and 20%, alkyd resin and gum rosin of 5% each and paraffin wax of 0.5%. Totally, twenty four water repellent solutions were prepared. Water repellency was evaluated in terms of water absorption of the cellulosic fibrous mats. The relations between retention of solid substances of the formulations and grammage and water absorption of filter paper samples… More >
