    Kaicheng Liu1,3, Chen Liang2, Naiyue Wu1,3, Xiaoyang Dong2, Hui Yu1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.9, pp. 2621-2637, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.050001

Abstract This paper presents a novel approach to economic dispatch in smart grids equipped with diverse energy devices. This method integrates features including photovoltaic (PV) systems, energy storage coupling, varied energy roles, and energy supply and demand dynamics. The system model is developed by considering energy devices as versatile units capable of fulfilling various functionalities and playing multiple roles simultaneously. To strike a balance between optimality and feasibility, renewable energy resources are modeled with considerations for forecasting errors, Gaussian distribution, and penalty factors. Furthermore, this study introduces a distributed event-triggered surplus algorithm designed to address the More >

    Aadel M. Alatwi1,2, Abualkasim Bakeer3, Sherif A. Zaid1,*, Ibrahem E. Atawi1, Hani Albalawi1,4, Ahmed M. Kassem5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.2, pp. 1807-1830, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.048521

Abstract An autonomous microgrid that runs on renewable energy sources is presented in this article. It has a superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) device, wind energy-producing devices, and an energy storage battery. However, because such microgrids are nonlinear and the energy they create varies with time, controlling and managing the energy inside them is a difficult issue. Fractional-order proportional integral (FOPI) controller is recommended for the current research to enhance a standalone microgrid’s energy management and performance. The suggested dedicated control for the SMES comprises two loops: the outer loop, which uses the FOPI to regulate… More >

Strategic Renewable Energy Resource Selection Using a Fuzzy Decision-Making Method

    Anas Quteishat1,2,*, M. A. A. Younis2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 2117-2134, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.029419

Abstract Renewable energy is created by renewable natural resources such as geothermal heat, sunlight, tides, rain, and wind. Energy resources are vital for all countries in terms of their economies and politics. As a result, selecting the optimal option for any country is critical in terms of energy investments. Every country is nowadays planning to increase the share of renewable energy in their universal energy sources as a result of global warming. In the present work, the authors suggest fuzzy multi-characteristic decision-making approaches for renewable energy source selection, and fuzzy set theory is a valuable methodology More >

Distributionally Robust Optimal Dispatch of Virtual Power Plant Based on Moment of Renewable Energy Resource

Wenlu Ji, Yong Wang*, Xing Deng, Ming Zhang, Ting Ye

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.5, pp. 1967-1983, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.020011

Abstract Virtual power plants can effectively integrate different types of distributed energy resources, which have become a new operation mode with substantial advantages such as high flexibility, adaptability, and economy. This paper proposes a distributionally robust optimal dispatch approach for virtual power plants to determine an optimal day-ahead dispatch under uncertainties of renewable energy sources. The proposed distributionally robust approach characterizes probability distributions of renewable power output by moments. In this regard, the faults of stochastic optimization and traditional robust optimization can be overcome. Firstly, a second-order cone-based ambiguity set that incorporates the first and second… More >

    El-Sayed M. El-Kenawy1,2, Abdelhameed Ibrahim3, Nadjem Bailek4,*, Kada Bouchouicha5, Muhammed A. Hassan6, Basharat Jamil7, Nadhir Al-Ansari8

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 5837-5854, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023257

Abstract In order to achieve a highly accurate estimation of solar energy resource potential, a novel hybrid ensemble-learning approach, hybridizing Advanced Squirrel-Search Optimization Algorithm (ASSOA) and support vector regression, is utilized to estimate the hourly tilted solar irradiation for selected arid regions in Algeria. Long-term measured meteorological data, including mean-air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, alongside global horizontal irradiation and extra-terrestrial horizontal irradiance, were obtained for the two cities of Tamanrasset-and-Adrar for two years. Five computational algorithms were considered and analyzed for the suitability of estimation. Further two new algorithms, namely Average Ensemble and Ensemble using… More >

Hybrid Microgrid based on PID Controller with the Modified Particle Swarm Optimization

    R. K. Rojin1,*, M. Mary Linda2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.1, pp. 245-258, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.021834

Abstract Microgrids (MG) are distribution networks encompassing distributed energy sources. As it obtains the power from these resources, few problems such as instability along with Steady-State (SS) issues are noticed. To address the stability issues, that arise due to disturbances of low magnitude. Small-Signals Stability (SSS) becomes mandatory in the network. Convergence at local optimum is one of the major issues noticed with the existing optimization algorithms. This paper proposes a detailed model of SSS in Direct Current (DC)-Alternate Current (AC) Hybrid MG (HMG) using Proportional Integral and Derivative Controller (PIDC) tuned with Modified Particle Swarm… More >

Hybrid Renewable Energy Resources Management for Optimal Energy Operation in Nano-Grid

    Faiza Qayyum1, Faisal Jamil1, Shabir Ahmad2, Do-Hyeun Kim1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 2091-2105, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019898

Abstract Renewable energy resources are deemed a potential energy production source due to their cost efficiency and harmless reaction to the environment, unlike non-renewable energy resources. However, they often fail to meet energy requirements in unfavorable weather conditions. The concept of Hybrid renewable energy resources addresses this issue by integrating both renewable and non-renewable energy resources to meet the required energy load. In this paper, an intelligent cost optimization algorithm is proposed to maximize the use of renewable energy resources and minimum utilization of non-renewable energy resources to meet the energy requirement for a nanogrid infrastructure.… More >
