Enhancing Indoor User Localization: An Adaptive Bayesian Approach for Multi-Floor Environments

    Abdulraqeb Alhammadi1,*, Zaid Ahmed Shamsan2, Arijit De3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.80, No.2, pp. 1889-1905, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.051487 - 15 August 2024

Abstract Indoor localization systems are crucial in addressing the limitations of traditional global positioning system (GPS) in indoor environments due to signal attenuation issues. As complex indoor spaces become more sophisticated, indoor localization systems become essential for improving user experience, safety, and operational efficiency. Indoor localization methods based on Wi-Fi fingerprints require a high-density location fingerprint database, but this can increase the computational burden in the online phase. Bayesian networks, which integrate prior knowledge or domain expertise, are an effective solution for accurately determining indoor user locations. These networks use probabilistic reasoning to model relationships among… More >

    Samir Salem Al-Bawri1,*, Mohammad Tariqul Islam2, Mandeep Jit Singh1,2, Mohd Faizal Jamlos3, Adam Narbudowicz4, Max J. Ammann4, Dominique M. M. P. Schreurs5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 5437-5452, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020781 - 11 October 2021

Abstract The paper proposes an Indoor Localization System (ILS) which uses only one fixed Base Station (BS) with simple non-reconfigurable antennas. The proposed algorithm measures Received Signal Strength (RSS) and maps it to the location in the room by estimating signal strength of a direct line of sight (LOS) signal and signal of the first order reflection from the wall. The algorithm is evaluated through both simulations and empirical measurements in a furnished open space office, sampling 21 different locations in the room. It is demonstrated the system can identify user’s real-time location with a maximum More >

    Vikram Rajpoot1, Vivek Tiwari2, Akash Saxena3, Prashant Chaturvedi4, Dharmendra Singh Rajput5, Mohammed Alkahtani6,7, Mustufa Haider Abidi7,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.3, pp. 3917-3930, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015826 - 24 August 2021

Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are designed to monitor the physical properties of the target area. The received signal strength (RSS) plays a significant role in reducing sensor node power consumption during data transmission. Proper utilization of RSS values with clustering is required to harvest the energy of each network node to prolong the network life span. This paper introduces the RSS-based energy-efficient selective clustering technique using a master node (RESCM) to improve energy utilization using a master node. The master node positioned at the center of the network area and base station (BS) is placed More >

Enhanced Fingerprinting Based Indoor Positioning Using Machine Learning

    Muhammad Waleed Pasha1, Mir Yasir Umair1, Alina Mirza1,*, Faizan Rao1, Abdul Wakeel1, Safia Akram1, Fazli Subhan2, Wazir Zada Khan3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 1631-1652, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018205 - 21 July 2021

Abstract Due to the inability of the Global Positioning System (GPS) signals to penetrate through surfaces like roofs, walls, and other objects in indoor environments, numerous alternative methods for user positioning have been presented. Amongst those, the Wi-Fi fingerprinting method has gained considerable interest in Indoor Positioning Systems (IPS) as the need for line-of-sight measurements is minimal, and it achieves better efficiency in even complex indoor environments. Offline and online are the two phases of the fingerprinting method. Many researchers have highlighted the problems in the offline phase as it deals with huge datasets and validation… More >

Leveraging Logical Anchor into Topology Optimization for Indoor Wireless Fingerprinting

    Lin Wang1,*, Huixiang Liu1, Wenyuan Liu1,2, Nan Jing1, Ahmad Adnan1, Chenshu Wu3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.58, No.2, pp. 437-449, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.03814

Abstract The indoor subarea localization has wide application space in dynamic hot zone identification, indoor layout optimization, store dynamic pricing and crowd flow trend prediction. The ubiquitous mobile devices provide the opportunity for wireless fingerprinting-based indoor localization services. However, there are two short board where the existing methods have been criticized. One is that a tagging approach requires a large number of professional surveys for wireless fingerprint construction, which weakens the scalability of the methods. The other is that the crowdsourcing-based methods encounter the cold boot problem in the system initial stage. To address these issues,… More >
