Abstract Urban railways are vital means of public transportation in Korea. More than 30% of metropolitan residents use the railways, and this proportion is expected to increase. To enhance safety, the government has mandated the installation of closed-circuit televisions in all carriages by 2024. However, cameras still monitored humans. To address this limitation, we developed a dataset of risk factors and a smart detection system that enables an immediate response to any abnormal behavior and intensive monitoring thereof. We created an innovative learning dataset that takes into account seven unique risk factors specific to Korean railway More >

Attempts for Odor Reduction Caused by Railroad Vehicle Air Conditioner

    Won-Hee Park1,*, Su-Whan Yoon1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011340

Abstract Korea's Daegu Railway Line 3 is a line operated by three-car train of unmanned railway vehicles running over an elevated bridge. Complaints about bad odors when air conditioners are turned on during the summer and late spring and early fall are increasing. In the case of Daegu Line 3, which is exposed to the external environment, the stopping section is shorter than that of regular railways, and the congestion rate by time period/section changes rapidly. Since the perceived temperature is different for each gender/individual of the passengers, the set temperature of the air conditioner is… More >

Impact of the Railway Vehicle Characteristics in Its Runnability in the Presence of Strong Winds

    Pedro Montenegro1,*, Raphael Heleno2, Hermes Carvalho2, Diogo Ribeiro3, Rui Calçada1, Chris Baker4

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2022, DOI:10.32604/icces.2022.08678

Abstract This work consists of evaluating the impact of the most relevant characteristics of railway vehicles, namely geometric, mechanical and aerodynamic properties, in their runnability in the presence of strong winds, more precisely in the risk of derailment. Such objective is achieved by performing several dynamic with a non-linear vehicle-structure interaction model developed by the authors [1,2] and used in other works in this field [3,4], which allows the evaluation of the wheel-rail contact forces and, consequently, the unloading index, as suggested by the European Norm EN 14067-6 [5]. The calculations are carried out for several… More >

A New Estimation of Nonlinear Contact Forces of Railway Vehicle

    Khakoo Mal1,2, Imtiaz Hussain Kalwar3, Khurram Shaikh2, Tayab Din Memon2,4, Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry1, Kashif Nisar5,*, Manoj Gupta6

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.28, No.3, pp. 823-841, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.016990 - 20 April 2021

    Abstract

The core part of any study of rolling stock behavior is the wheel-track interaction patch because the forces produced at the wheel-track interface govern the dynamic behavior of the whole railway vehicle. It is significant to know the nature of the contact force to design more effective vehicle dynamics control systems and condition monitoring systems. However, it is hard to find the status of this adhesion force due to its complexity, highly non-linear nature, and also affected with an unpredictable operation environment. The purpose of this paper is to develop a model-based estimation technique using the
