Different Deficit Irrigation Lower Limits and Irrigation Quotas Affect the Yield and Water Use Efficiency of Winter Wheat by Regulating Photosynthetic Characteristics

Huiqin Li, Mingzhi Zhang*, Na Xiao, Haijian Yang

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.12, pp. 3211-3236, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.031003 - 28 December 2023

Abstract To determine suitable thresholds for deficit irrigation of winter wheat in the well-irrigated area of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, we investigated the effects of different deficit irrigation lower limits and quotas on the photosynthetic characteristics and grain yield of winter wheat. Four irrigation lower limits were set for initiating irrigation (i.e., light drought (LD, 50%, 55%, 60% and 50% of field holding capacity (FC) at the seedling-regreening, jointing, heading and filling-ripening stages, respectively), medium drought (MD, 40%, 50%, 55% and 45% of FC at the same stages, respectively), adequate moisture (CK1, 60%, 65%, 70% and 60%… More >

Effects of Different Potassium (K) Fertilizer Rates on Yield Formation and Lodging of Rice

    Tantan Zhang1,2,#, Xiaoping He3,#, Binglin Chen1,#, Longxin He1,2, Xiangru Tang1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.3, pp. 815-826, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.014168 - 30 March 2021

Abstract As one of the most important nutrients for plants, potassium (K) has substantial effects on growth and development of crops. Present study was conducted in three different sites in South China in late season in 2019 with the objective to study the effects of different applied amounts of K fertilizer on yield formation and lodging of rice. Four K fertilizer treatments, K0: 0 kg potassium oxide (K2O) ha−1 (control); K1: 64.20 kg K2O ha−1 ; K2: 128.55 kg K2O ha−1 and K3 153.90 kg K2O ha−1 were applied in the field experiment. The results showed that K2 and K3 treatments significantly increased… More >

Study of Spectral Response Characteristics of Oilseed Rape (Brassica napus) to Particulate Matters Based on Hyper-Spectral Technique

    Lijuan Kong1,2, Haiye Yu1,2, Zhaojia Piao1,2, Meichen Chen1,2, Jingmin Dang1, Lei Zhang1,2, Yuanyuan Sui1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.3, pp. 1015-1030, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.014190 - 30 March 2021

Abstract Haze is mainly caused by the suspended particulate matters in the air, of which the particulate matters pollution harms leaf vegetables. In this paper, oilseed rapes at four different growing periods were investigated in a simulated particulate pollution environment. In combination of hyper-spectral technology and micro examination, the response of hyper-spectral characteristics of the leaf to particulate matters was investigated in-depth. The hyperspectral, chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance of leaf were obtained. The deposition and adsorption of particulate matters on the leaf were observed by Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM). Normalized difference… More >

Adjusting Nitrogen Application in Accordance with Soil Water Availability Enhances Yield and Water Use by Regulating Physiological Traits of Maize under Drip Fertigation

    Mingda Yang1, Shouchen Ma2, Fujian Mei1, Li Wei1, Tongchao Wang1,*, Xiaokang Guan1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.2, pp. 417-435, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.013175 - 07 February 2021

Abstract Knowledge of the interactive effects of water and nitrogen (N) on physio-chemical traits of maize (Zea mays L.) helps to optimize water and N management and improve productivity. A split-plot experiment was conducted with three soil water conditions (severe drought, moderate drought, and fully water supply referring to 45%–55%, 65%–75%, and 85%–95% field capacity, respectively) and four N application rates (N0, N150, N240, and N330 referring to 0, 150, 240, 330 kg N ha–1 respectively) under drip fertigation in 2014 and 2015 in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain of China. The results indicated that drought stress inhibited physiological activity of plants… More >

Effects of Multi-Stage Continuous Drought on Photosynthetic Characteristics, Yield and Water Use Efficiency of Winter Wheat

    Daoxi Li1,*, Ruitao Lou1, Yanbin Li1, Zepeng Bian1, Ya’nan Zhu2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.3, pp. 691-703, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.010661 - 22 June 2020

Abstract A drought event can cause entire crops to fail or yield loss. In order to study the effects of continuous drought on photosynthetic characteristics, yield, and water use efficiency (WUE) of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), the winter wheat variety “Aikang 58” was selected as test material with controlling the water of the pot-planted winter wheat under a mobile rainout shelter. Based on foot planting and safe wintering, winter wheat was evaluated under different drought conditions, including light, moderate and severe drought at the jointing (B), heading (C), and filling (G) stages. The soil water content… More >

Comparison of photosynthetic and morphological characteristics, and microstructure of roots and shoots, between columnar apple and standard apple trees of hybrid seedlings

    Zhang YG, HY Dai

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.80, pp. 119-125, 2011, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2011.80.119

Abstract The photosynthetic and morphological characteristics, and microstructure of roots and shoots, were studied between columnar apple and standard apple trees derived from the crosses of ‘Fuji’ × ‘Telamon’ and ‘Gala’ × ‘Telamon’. The results showed that chlorophyll A, chlorophyll B, the content of chlorophyll A+B, and leaf area index were higher in columnar apple trees than in standard apple trees. In a day cycle, the net photosynthetic (Pn) and transpiration rates (Tr) were higher in the columnar apple trees than in standard apple trees. The daily variations of Pn and Tr were of a double… More >
