FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) in Photosensitive Type Chrysanthemum Accelerates Flowering in Arabidopsis

Fenglan Wang#, Zhenyuan Cai#, Zhimei Li, Shilong Zhang, Honghui Luo, Qing Wu, Hanhan Xia, Yanhong Guo*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.4, pp. 819-830, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.049150 - 29 April 2024

Abstract FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) is an important factor for integrating flowering signals through the photoperiod pathway, which significantly promotes flowering. Most chrysanthemum varieties are short-day plants, sensitive to the photoperiod, which limits their ornamental and annual production supply. In this study, we aim to analyze the nutrients and flowering-related genes of chrysanthemums with different photoperiod types and to clone and verify the function of the flowering-related gene CmFT. We found that the formation of floral buds requires the accumulation of starch while consuming soluble sugars and the expression patterns of flowering-related genes GIGANTEA (GI), CONSTANS (CO), and FT in C.morifoliumMore >

Overexpression of Wheat TaELF3-1BL Delays Flowering in Arabidopsis

Junsheng Sun#, Haozhen Zhang#, Mingxia Zhang, Sishen Li, Yanrong An*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 79-90, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.022225 - 06 September 2022

Abstract EARLY FLOWERING 3 (ELF3), a light zeitnehmer (time-taker) gene, regulates circadian rhythm and photoperiodic flowering in Arabidopsis, rice, and barley. The three orthologs of ELF3 (TaELF3-1AL, TaELF3-1BL, and TaELF3-1DL) have been identified in wheat too, and one gene, TaELF3-1DL, has been associated with heading date. However, the basic characteristics of these three genes and the roles of the other two genes, TaELF3-1BL and, TaELF3-1AL, remain unknown. Therefore, the present study obtained the coding sequences of the three orthologs (TaELF3-1AL, TaELF3-1BL, and TaELF3-1DL) of ELF3 from bread wheat and characterized them and investigated the role of TaELF3-1BL in Arabidopsis. Protein sequence comparison revealed similarities… More >

Reproductive performance of the Mesa silverside (Chirostoma jordani Woolman, 1894) under natural and controlled photoperiods

JOSÉ LUIS ARREDONDO-FIGUEROA1, LAURA GEORGINA NÚÑEZ-GARCÍA2, PALOMA ADRIANA HEREDIA-GUZMÁN3 AND JESÚS T. PONCE-PALAFOX4.

    BIOCELL, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 105-111, 2012, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2012.36.105

Abstract Chirostoma jordani is a native annual species inhabiting lacustrine waters of the Central Mexico Plateau. It is widely distributed and is currently facing high environmental pressures. Five experiments were performed to study the reproductive performance of this species. Four of the experiments were conducted in 270-L indoor recirculation tanks. Two males and one female at the first stage of reproduction were included in each test. A photoperiod of 14 light hours and 10 dark hours was used. In a fifth experiment, 10 females and 15 males were kept in an outdoor 3,000-L recirculation tank under natural… More >

Variety responses to vernalization and photoperiod in double purpose wheat varieties

Morant AE, HD Merchán, EE Lutz

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.80, pp. 113-117, 2011, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2011.80.113

Abstract The wheat vernalization response is controlled by three recessive alleles identified and located, that allows to characterize varieties through genetic analysis. However, it is unknown whether the same genetic constitution at a loci scale in different varieties implies the same (1) requirement of cold hours, and (2) interaction with the photoperiod for induction. Therefore, we conducted an experiment with varieties carrying the alleles (vrn-A1, vrn-B1 vrn-D1), extreme condition of vernalization requirements, to compare the duration of the vegetative phase under different photoperiods. The study was conducted in a greenhouse with four varieties of double purpose wheat.… More >
