Hongsheng Su, Shilin Song*, Xingsheng Wang

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.11, pp. 3289-3303, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.054643 - 21 October 2024

Abstract This paper introduces the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to enhance the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) process. The key objective is to mitigate the issues of lengthy computation times and low computational accuracy typically encountered when applying Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) to LHS for probabilistic trend calculations. The PSO method optimizes sample distribution, enhances global search capabilities, and significantly boosts computational efficiency. To validate its effectiveness, the proposed method was applied to IEEE34 and IEEE-118 node systems containing wind power. The performance was then compared with Latin Hypercubic Important Sampling (LHIS), which integrates significant sampling More >

Abstract The four-circuit parallel line on the same tower effectively solves the problems faced by the line reconstruction and construction under the condition of the increasing shortage of transmission corridors. Optimizing the conductor and phase sequence arrangement of multiple transmission lines is conducive to improving electromagnetic and electrostatic coupling caused by electromagnetic problems. This paper uses the ATP-EMTP simulation software to build a 500 kV multi-circuit transmission line on the same tower. It stimulates the induced voltage and current values of different line lengths, tower spacing, vertical and horizontal spacing between different circuits, phase sequence arrangement,… More >

Abstract The optimal allocation of integrated energy system capacity based on the heuristic algorithms can reduce economic costs and achieve maximum consumption of renewable energy, which has attracted many attentions. However, the optimization results of heuristic algorithms are usually influenced by the choice of hyperparameters. To solve the above problem, the particle swarm algorithm is introduced to find the optimal hyperparameters of the heuristic algorithms. Firstly, an integrated energy system consisting of the photovoltaic, wind turbine, electrolysis cell, hydrogen storage tank, and energy storage is established. Meanwhile, the minimum economic cost, the maximum wind and PV… More >

Abstract The design of an antenna requires a careful selection of its parameters to retain the desired performance. However, this task is time-consuming when the traditional approaches are employed, which represents a significant challenge. On the other hand, machine learning presents an effective solution to this challenge through a set of regression models that can robustly assist antenna designers to find out the best set of design parameters to achieve the intended performance. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for accurately predicting the bandwidth of metamaterial antenna. The proposed approach is based on employing… More >

Abstract With the continuous increase in the proportional use of wind energy across the globe, the reduction of power generation efficiency and safety hazards caused by the icing on wind turbine blades have attracted more consideration for research. Therefore, it is crucial to accurately analyze the thickness of icing on wind turbine blades, which can serve as a basis for formulating corresponding control measures and ensure a safe and stable operation of wind turbines in winter times and/or in high altitude areas. This paper fully utilized the advantages of the support vector machine (SVM) and back-propagation More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.5, pp. 1549-1564, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014818 - 16 July 2021

Abstract With the significant progress of the “coal to electricity” project, the electric kiln equipment began to be connected to the distribution network on a large scale, which caused power quality problems such as low voltage, high harmonic distortion rate, and high reactive power loss. This paper proposes a two-stage power grid comprehensive resource optimization configuration model. A multi-objective optimization solution based on the joint simulation platform of Matlab and OpenDSS is developed. The solution aims to control harmonics and optimize reactive power. In the first stage, a multi-objective optimization model is established to minimize the… More >

    Monagi H. Alkinani1,*, E. A. Zanaty2, Sherif M. Ibrahim3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.2, pp. 1577-1593, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014803 - 05 February 2021

Abstract This paper presents a novel method utilizing wavelets with particle swarm optimization (PSO) for medical image compression. Our method utilizes PSO to overcome the wavelets discontinuity which occurs when compressing images using thresholding. It transfers images into subband details and approximations using a modified Haar wavelet (MHW), and then applies a threshold. PSO is applied for selecting a particle assigned to the threshold values for the subbands. Nine positions assigned to particles values are used to represent population. Every particle updates its position depending on the global best position (gbest) (for all details subband) and More >
