Machining Learning Enhanced Shape Morphing Design of 4D Printed Microplatelet Composites

    Weixiang Peng1, Hortense Le Ferrand1,2,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011119

Abstract Natural structural materials have undergone extensive evolution, resulting in intricate microstructural designs over billions of years. These designs have given rise to a diverse array of hierarchical microstructures that exhibit exceptional performance in terms of strength, resilience, toughness, and adaptability [1]. Among these natural microstructures, the microplatelet-based brick-and-mortar arrangement found in the nacreous layers of seashells has been the subject of extensive study. Additionally, more complex microstructural alignments exist, and these mineral orientations showcase varying properties, such as the shrinkage deformations. Inspired by the observed expansion deformation characteristics in nature, this study delves into the… More >

An Expert System to Detect Political Arabic Articles Orientation Using CatBoost Classifier Boosted by Multi-Level Features

    Saad M. Darwish1,*, Abdul Rahman M. Sabri2, Dhafar Hamed Abd2, Adel A. Elzoghabi1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.6, pp. 1595-1624, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2024.054615 - 22 November 2024

Abstract The number of blogs and other forms of opinionated online content has increased dramatically in recent years. Many fields, including academia and national security, place an emphasis on automated political article orientation detection. Political articles (especially in the Arab world) are different from other articles due to their subjectivity, in which the author’s beliefs and political affiliation might have a significant influence on a political article. With categories representing the main political ideologies, this problem may be thought of as a subset of the text categorization (classification). In general, the performance of machine learning models… More >

Marangoni Convection Shifting, Heat Accumulation and Microstructure Evolution of Laser Directed Energy Deposition

    Donghua Dai1,2,*, Yanze Li1,2, Dongdong Gu1,2,*, Wentai Zhao1,2, Yuhang Long1,2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012500

Abstract Laser Directed Energy Deposition (LDED) technology was employed to fabricate internal structures within the hollow interiors of rotating parts, such as tubes and cylinders. A three-dimensional transient multiphysics model for C276 material was developed, which anticipated the impact of angular velocity from tube rotation on various aspects. This model, validated by experiments, focused on the melt pool morphology, Marangoni convection, oriented crystal microevolution, and deposited material microhardness. It was found that at 150 ms deposition, the dimensions of the melt pool stabilized. With an increase in the Peclet number, heat transfer within the melt pool… More >

Predicting Grain Orientations of 316 Stainless Steel Using Convolutional Neural Networks

Dhia K. Suker, Ahmed R. Abdo*, Khalid Abdulkhaliq M. Alharbi

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.39, No.5, pp. 929-947, 2024, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2024.056341 - 31 October 2024

Abstract This paper presents a deep learning Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for predicting grain orientations from electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) patterns. The proposed model consists of multiple neural network layers and has been trained on a dataset of EBSD patterns obtained from stainless steel 316 (SS316). Grain orientation changes when considering the effects of temperature and strain rate on material deformation. The deep learning CNN predicts material orientation using the EBSD method to address this challenge. The accuracy of this approach is evaluated by comparing the predicted crystal orientation with the actual orientation under different conditions, More >

Influence of Spray Gun Position and Orientation on Liquid Film Development along a Cylindrical Surface

Jiuxuan Liu, Yong Zeng*, Xueya Zhao, Hongbo Chen, Bin Yan, Qian Lu

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2499-2518, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.028413 - 25 June 2023

    Abstract

A method combining computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and an analytical approach is proposed to develop a prediction model for the variable thickness of the spray-induced liquid film along the surface of a cylindrical workpiece. The numerical method relies on an Eulerian-Eulerian technique. Different cylinder diameters and positions and inclinations of the spray gun are considered and useful correlations for the thickness of the liquid film and its distribution are determined using various data fitting algorithms. Finally, the reliability of the proposed method is verified by means of experimental tests where the robot posture is changed. The

Effect of Particle Orientation on Heat Transfer in Arrays of Prolate Particles

    Romana Basit1, Xinyang Li1, Zheqing Huang1, Qiang Zhou1,2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.2, pp. 1509-1526, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.025308 - 06 February 2023

Abstract Direct Numerical Simulations have been carried out to study the forced convection heat transfer of flow through fixed prolate particles for a variety of aspect ratios ar = {5/4, 5/3, 5/1} with Reynolds number (Re) up to 100. Three variations of the solid volume fraction c = {0.1, 0.2, 0.3} with four Hermans orientation factors S = {−0.5, 0, 0.5, 1} are studied. It has been found that changes in S cause prominent variations in the Nusselt number. In general, Nusselt number increases with the decrease of S. For all three aspect ratios, the Nusselt number remains More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Digital picture forgery detection has recently become a popular and significant topic in image processing. Due to advancements in image processing and the availability of sophisticated software, picture fabrication may hide evidence and hinder the detection of such criminal cases. The practice of modifying original photographic images to generate a forged image is known as digital image forging. A section of an image is copied and pasted into another part of the same image to hide an item or duplicate particular image elements in copy-move forgery. In order to make the forgeries real and inconspicuous,… More >

    GAURAV AGARWAL

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.39, No.3-4, pp. 255-267, 2022, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2022.39.3-4.6

Abstract Studies were conducted to observe the effect of fracture toughness and damping response on fabric reinforced epoxy polymer composites. The samples of glass fabric, kevlar fabric and carbon fabric having 15wt%, 25wt%, 35wt%, 45wt% and 55wt % fabric content were prepared and tested following ASTM standards. Fracture toughness, peak load and increase in energy absorption are determined for the fabric-epoxy composites. Effect of temperature on storage modulus, loss modulus and tan delta values for various percentages of fabric epoxy composites are noticed and corresponding damping response behaviour is determined. The results revealed that reduction in More >
