    Yan Dong1,2, Kang Zhao1, Liang Gao1, Hao Li1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.1, pp. 1-18, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.048870 - 25 April 2024

Abstract With the continuous advancement in topology optimization and additive manufacturing (AM) technology, the capability to fabricate functionally graded materials and intricate cellular structures with spatially varying microstructures has grown significantly. However, a critical challenge is encountered in the design of these structures–the absence of robust interface connections between adjacent microstructures, potentially resulting in diminished efficiency or macroscopic failure. A Hybrid Level Set Method (HLSM) is proposed, specifically designed to enhance connectivity among non-uniform microstructures, contributing to the design of functionally graded cellular structures. The HLSM introduces a pioneering algorithm for effectively blending heterogeneous microstructure interfaces.… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2277-2304, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030215 - 15 December 2023

Abstract The performance of a water jet propulsion system is related to the inlet duct, rotor, stator, and nozzle. Generally, the flow inlet design must fit the bottom line of the hull, and the design of the inlet duct is often limited by stern space. The entire section, from the rotor to the nozzle through the stator, must be designed based on system integration in that the individual performance of these three components will influence each other. Particularly, the section from the rotor to the nozzle significantly impacts the performance of a water jet propulsion system.… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 809-838, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.023561 - 27 October 2022

Abstract This paper proposes an explicit method for topology optimization of stiffened plate structures. The present work is devoted to simultaneously optimizing stiffeners’ shape, size and layout by seeking the optimal geometry parameters of a series of moving morphable components (MMC). The stiffeners with straight skeletons and the stiffeners with curved skeletons are considered to enhance the modeling and optimization capability of the current approach. All the stiffeners are represented under the Lagrangian-description framework in a fully explicit way, and the adaptive ground structure method, as well as dynamically updated plate/shell elements, is used to obtain More > Graphic Abstract

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.11, pp. 2835-2849, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.021840 - 29 June 2022

Abstract Space solar power station is a novel renewable energy equipment in space to provide the earth with abundant and continuous power. The Orb-shaped Membrane Energy Gathering Array, one of the alternative construction schemes in China, is promising for collecting space sunlight with a large-scale spherical concentrator. Both the structural and optical performances such as root mean square deformation, natural frequency, system mass, and sunlight blocking rate have significant influences on the system property of the concentrator. Considering the comprehensive performance of structure and optic, this paper proposes a novel mesh grid based on normal polyhedron… More > Graphic Abstract

    Teng Yi1,*, Shuenn-Ren Liou1, Wen-Yih Kuo1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.6, pp. 1753-1772, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018587 - 20 January 2022

Abstract The paper investigates the second-order interactions of parameters in an alkali-activated mixture of paper production waste (PPW) and blast furnace slag (BFS) in Taguchi method. The PPW including lime mud (LM) and paper sludge (PS). This paper provides the experimental models to assess the compressive and flexural strength of them at 7-day and 28-day. The results have shown that the second-order interactions between PPW and alkali-activated activator exists in each experimental model, and the significant interactions affect the selection of optimal compositions. Compared with the interactions between the PPW themselves, the interactions between PPW and… More >

    Xiangxi Du1,*, Muyun Liu2, Yanhua Sun1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.2, pp. 303-312, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.016242 - 16 December 2021

Abstract The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology is analyzed and calculated utilizing the turbulence model and multiphase flow model to explore the performance of internal circulating fluidized beds (ICFB) based on CFD. The three-dimensional simulation method can study the hydrodynamic properties of the ICFB, and the performance of the fluidized bed is optimized. The fluidization performance of the ICFB is improved through the experimental study of the cross-shaped baffle. Then, through the cross-shaped baffle and funnel-shaped baffle placement, the fluidized bed reaches a coupled optimization. The results show that CFD simulation technology can effectively improve the More >

Kang Xu, Tong Li, Gaofei Guan, Jianlong Qu, Zhen Zhao, Xinsheng Xu*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.2, pp. 987-1002, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018128 - 13 December 2021

Abstract By means of the local surface nanocrystallization that enables to change the material on local positions, an innovative embedded multi-cell (EMC) thin-walled energy absorption structures with local surface nanocrystallization is proposed in this paper. The local surface nanacrystallization stripes are regarded as the moving morphable components in the domain for optimal design. Results reveal that after optimizing the local surface nanocrystallization layout, the specific energy absorption (SEA) is increased by 50.78% compared with the untreated counterpart. Besides, in contrast with the optimized 4-cell structure, the SEA of the nanocrystallized embedded 9-cell structure is further enhanced More >

Hongling Ye*, Zonghan Li, Nan Wei, Pengfei Su, Yunkang Sui

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.1, pp. 297-314, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.016133 - 28 June 2021

Abstract Fatigue failure is a common failure mode under the action of cyclic loads in engineering applications, which often occurs with no obvious signal. The maximum structural stress is far below the allowable stress when the structures are damaged. Aiming at the lightweight structure, fatigue topology optimization design is investigated to avoid the occurrence of fatigue failure in the structural conceptual design beforehand. Firstly, the fatigue life is expressed by topology variables and the fatigue life filter function. The continuum fatigue optimization model is established with the independent continuous mapping (ICM) method. Secondly, fatigue life constraints More >
