Synergizing Wind, Solar, and Biomass Power: Ranking Analysis of Off-Grid System for Different Weather Conditions of Iran

    Razieh Keshavarzi, Mehdi Jahangiri*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.6, pp. 1381-1401, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.050029

Abstract Nowadays, the use of renewable energies, especially wind, solar, and biomass, is essential as an effective solution to address global environmental and economic challenges. Therefore, the current study examines the energy-economic-environmental analysis of off-grid electricity generation systems using solar panels, wind turbines, and biomass generators in various weather conditions in Iran. Simulations over 25 years were conducted using HOMER v2.81 software, aiming to determine the potential of each region and find the lowest cost of electricity production per kWh. In the end, to identify the most suitable location, the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity… More > Graphic Abstract

    Essam Hendawi1,*, Sattam Al Otaibi1, Sherif Zaid2,3,4, Ayman Hoballah1, Salah K. ElSayed1, Nagy I. Elkalashy1, Yasser Ahmed1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 1009-1025, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.022927

Abstract With the increasing development of EVs, the energy demand from the conventional utility grid increases in proportion. On the other hand, photovoltaic (PV) energy sources can overcome several problems when charging EVs from the utility grid especially in remote areas. This paper presents an effective photovoltaic stand-alone charging station for EV applications. The proposed charging station incorporates PV array, a lithium-ion battery representing the EV battery, and a lead-acid battery representing the energy storage system (ESS). A bidirectional DC-DC converter is employed for charging/discharging the ESS and a unidirectional DC-DC converter is utilized for charging… More >

Optimal Configuration of an Off-Grid Hybrid Wind-Hydrogen Energy System: Comparison of Two Systems

    Zekun Wang1,2,4, Yan Jia1,2,3,*, Yingjian Yang1, Chang Cai4,5, Yinpeng Chen1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.6, pp. 1641-1658, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.017464

Abstract Due to the uncertainty of renewable energy power generation and the non-linearity of load demand, it becomes complicated to determine the capacity of each device in hybrid renewable energy power generation systems. This work aims to optimize the capacity of two types of the off-grid hybrid wind-hydrogen energy system. We considered the maximum profit of the system and the minimum loss of power supply probability as optimization goals. Firstly, we established steady-state models of the wind turbine, alkaline electrolyzer, lead-acid battery, and proton exchange membrane fuel cell in matrix laboratory software to optimize the capacity.… More >

    Abstract

Green wireless networks or energy-efficient wireless networks have gained popularity as a research topic due to the ecological and economic concerns of cellular operators. The specific power supply requirements for the cellular base station, such as cost-effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability, can be met by utilizing the technological advances in renewable energy. There are numerous drivers for the deployment of renewable energy technologies and the transition towards green energy. Renewable energy is free, clean, and abundant in most locations throughout the year. Accordingly, this work proposes a novel framework for energy-efficient solar-powered base stations for the
