Abstract The actuator is a key component of the creaming tool in drilling applications. Its jet performances determine the effective reaming efficiency. In this work, a new selective reaming tool is proposed and the RNG k-ε turbulence model is used to calculate its internal and external flow fields. In particular, special attention is paid to the design of the flushing nozzle. The results show that the jet originating from the flushing nozzle has a significant influence on rock cutting and blade cooling effects. In turn, the jet performances depend on geometric structure of the creaming actuator. More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.2, pp. 349-370, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.013535 - 02 April 2021

    Abstract

To improve the agglomeration of powder in a coaxial powder feeding nozzle used in the frame of a laser energy deposition technique, the influence of several parameters must be carefully assessed. In the present study the problem is addressed by means of numerical simulations based on a DEM-CFD (Discrete Element Method and Discrete Element Method) coupled model. The influence of the powder flow concentration, powder flow focal length and the amount of powder at the nozzle outlet on the rate of convergence of the powder flow is considered. The role played by the nozzle outlet

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 143-155, 2015, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2015.011.143

Abstract Three different kinds of nozzles, normally used in industrial processes for the cleaning of material surface by means of water jets at high pressure (a Cylindrical Contracting, a Taper Contracting and Stepped nozzle), are numerically simulated with the express intent to optimize the related efficiency (cleaning effectiveness). Although some of them are found to display interesting properties, simulation results indicate that a helix nozzle displays the best jetting performances. It is shown that, as compared to improvements obtained by simply changing the jetting angle, revolving the fluid released from the helix nozzle can be used More >
