Multicomponent Discrete Boltzmann Method for Compressible Reactive Flows with Thermodynamic Nonequilibrium Effects

    Chongdong Lin1,2,3,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011631

Abstract In many real-world scenarios, such as high-speed combustion processes and re-entry flows in aerospace vehicles, the flow conditions often involve complex interactions between multiple chemical species and energy modes, leading to thermodynamic nonequilibrium effects. Traditional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods struggle to accurately capture these phenomena due to their simplifying assumptions regarding equilibrium thermodynamics. To solve this issue, the Multicomponent Discrete Boltzmann Method (MDBM) is proposed as a numerical approach to simulate compressible reactive flows with thermodynamic nonequilibrium effects. Based on kinetic theory, this method can capture the complex interactions between different species and energy… More >

    Zihang Li1,#, Zexin Wang1,#, Zi Wang2, Zijun Qin1, Feng Liu1, Liming Tan1,*, Xiaochao Jin3,*, Xueling Fan3, Lan Huang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 1521-1538, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021639 - 27 October 2022

Abstract Solid solution strengthening (SSS) is one of the main contributions to the desired tensile properties of nickel-based superalloys for turbine blades and disks. The value of SSS can be calculated by using Fleischer’s and Labusch’s theories, while the model parameters are incorporated without fitting to experimental data of complex alloys. In this work, four diffusion multiples consisting of multicomponent alloys and pure Ni are prepared and characterized. The composition and microhardness of single γ phase regions in samples are used to quantify the SSS. Then, Fleischer’s and Labusch’s theories are examined based on high-throughput experiments, More >

    Abstract

Further development in the field of geothermal energy require reliable reference data on the thermophysical properties of geothermal waters, namely, on the thermal conductivity and viscosity of aqueous salt solutions at temperatures of 293–473 K, pressures Ps = 100 MPa, and concentrations of 0–25 wt.%. Given the lack of data and models, especially for the dynamic viscosity of aqueous salt solutions at a pressure of above 40 MPa, generalized formulas are presented here, by which these gaps can be filled. The article presents a generalized formula for obtaining reliable data on the thermal conductivity of water

    Andrey Y. Ilinykh*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.4, pp. 723-735, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.08987 - 11 August 2020

Abstract The distribution of material resulting from the impact of a freely falling drop with a target liquid has been studied by photo and video registration methods. Different cases have been investigated by considering drops made of aqueous solutions (ink, salt, acid) and including fine solid particles (i.e., suspensions). New features have been observed in terms of flow dynamics and thin components produced as a result of the impact (such as banded elements, ligaments, and vortices at the surface of the liquid). In particular, the characteristics of emerging netlike structures have been found to depend on More >

    Jiarong Liang1, Yinshi Li1,2,*, Jinghui Jiang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 168-168, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05679

Abstract Designing cost-effective electrodes is essential to the development of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Therein, the highly ordered electrode has been proved to be effective by reducing Pt loading. To insight into the enhancement mechanism of ordered membrane electrode assembly (OMEA), in this work, a two-dimensional steady-state multicomponent mass-transport model is developed, in which a cylindrical structure model is adapted to account for the diffusion characteristics of reactants in ordered catalyst layer. Moreover, the overpotential corresponding to mass and charge transport limitations are calculated in this model based on concentration distribution and Ohm’s law,… More >

Nazia Afrina, Yijin Maoa, Yuwen Zhanga,*, J. K. Chena, Robin Ritterb, Alan Lampsonb, Jonathan Stohsc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.7, pp. 1-8, 2016, DOI:10.5098/hmt.7.7

Abstract A three-dimensional numerical simulation is conducted for a complex process in a laser-material system, which involves heat and mass transfer in a compressible gaseous phase and chemical reaction during laser irradiation on a urethane paint coated on a stainless steel substrate. A finite volume method (FVM) with a co-located grid mesh that discretizes the entire computational domain is employed to simulate the heating process. The results show that when the top surface of the paint reaches a threshold temperature of 560 K, the polyurethane starts to decompose through chemical reaction. As a result, combustion products CO2, More >

    J.S. Lowengrub1, J-J. Xu2, A. Voigt3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.3, No.1, pp. 1-20, 2007, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2007.003.001

Abstract We introduce and investigate numerically a thermodynamically consistent simple model of a drop or vesicle in which the interfacial surface contains multiple constitutive components (e.g. amphiphilic molecules). The model describes the nonlinear coupling among the flow, drop/vesicle morphology and the evolution of the surface phases. We consider a highly simplified version of the Helfrich model for fluid-like vesicle membranes in which we neglect the effects of bending forces and spontaneous curvature but keep the effects of inhomogeneous surface tension forces. Thus, this model may also describe liquid drops. To solve the highly nonlinear, coupled system More >
