    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.1, pp. 259-275, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.012476 - 20 November 2020

Abstract The phenotypic variation and its distribution among species, morphotypes, and among and within populations was estimated in 71 populations pertaining to 15 morphotypes of three domesticated species of Capsicum from Mexico. Collections were made in the states of Sinaloa, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Tabasco, and Yucatán in two agroecosystems: Backyard-garden and monoculture. Fifteen phenotypic characteristics were analyzed through one-way variance analysis and multivariate analyses of principal components analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering using Ward’s method. The study was performed in a uniform greenhouse experiment. A high variation was found among and within populations in all the measured characteristics.… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.83, pp. 225-236, 2014, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2014.83.225

Abstract Farmers’ role is important for the selection and conservation of the local diversity of native peppers (Capsicum annuum L.), which are distinguished by pod shape, plant traits, and show high levels of biogeographic and cultural heterogeneity. Our objective was to evaluate the phenotypic variation and postharvest changes of fruits in six morphotypes of native peppers from the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, Mexico. This would contribute information on the diversity of pepper landraces. Collection and characterization of plant and fruits were undertaken for 52 samples grouped into six morphotypes, under a completely randomized block design with three… More >

Germination and vigour of Crotalaria juncea L. (Fabaceae) seed morphotypes

    Pascualides AL y NS Ateca

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.82, pp. 313-319, 2013, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2013.82.313

Abstract Crotalaria juncea L. (Fabaceae) is an annual herbaceous species native to India. Their seeds have polymorphism in the seed coat color and different seed sizes. Seeds were grouped according to their seed coat color into uniform (dark gray seeds) and variegated (brown mottled seeds), to evaluate the vigour of C. juncea seed morphotypes. They were also classified into small (< 5mm length) and big seeds (>5 mm length). The 1000 seed weight, germination percentage, length and seedling dry weight, electrical conductivity and field emergence were evaluated. The results showed that uniform seeds had greater weight than those… More >

Sampling and characterization of pepper chilli (Capsicum spp) in Tabasco, Mexico

    Castañón-Nájera2 G, L Latournerie-Moreno3, M Mendoza-Elos4, A Vargas-López5, H Cárdenas-Morales6

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.77, pp. 189-202, 2008, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2008.77.189

Abstract A morphological characterization in situ of Capsicum spp was made in 13 localities in the state of Tabasco, México, during 2004 and 2005. The objective was to sample and identify different morphotypes of chilli pepper which grow under wild and cultivated conditions. Eleven chilli pepper morphotypes were found. Most of them were wild (Amashito, Corazón de pollo, Muela, Garbanzo, Garbanzo raro and Desconocido) and corresponded to C. annuum. Another morphotype was half wild (Picopaloma) and corresponded to C. frutescens. The remaining morphotypes corresponded to C. annuum and C. chinenese. Data were analyzed with multivariate statistics. Principal component analysis (PCA) indicated that… More >
