Morphometry and Mineral Content in the Seeds and Soil of Two Species of Argemone L. (Papaveraceae) in the Central Part of the Chihuahuan Desert

    Perla Patricia Ochoa-García1, Jaime Sánchez-Salas2, Ricardo Trejo-Calzada1, Jesús Josafath Quezada-Rivera2, Fabián García-González1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.2, pp. 371-386, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.048338 - 27 February 2024

Abstract The genus Argemone L. (Papaveraceae) is found widely distributed in Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert (CD). Some species of this genus are of phytochemical or ethnobotanical interest. They are inedible plants considered as scrubs. To date they have not been broadly studied; thus, their ecology is, to our knowledge, unknown. The present work was centered around carrying out a morphometric analysis and the determination of minerals in the soil and seeds of the wild populations of Argemone at sites belonging to two ecoregions of the CD in Mexico. In April 2021 and April 2022, seeds of Argemone spp., and… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.11, pp. 2491-2504, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.022473 - 12 July 2022

Abstract In soil biota, higher and enduring concentration of heavy metals like cadmium (Cd) is hazardous and associated with great loss in growth, yield, and quality parameters of most of the crop plants. Recently, in-situ applications of eco-friendly stabilizing agents in the form of organic modifications have been utilized to mitigate the adverse effects of Cd-toxicity. This controlled experiment was laid down to appraise the imprints of various applied organic amendments namely poultry manure (PM), farmyard manure (FYM), and sugarcane press mud (PS) to immobilize Cd in polluted soil. Moreover, phytoavailability of Cd in wheat was… More >

Evaluation of the hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects of Tegillarca granosa flesh body extract against potassium bromide toxicity via targeting the histomorphometry, chromosomal and expressions of TGF-β1, VEGF and COX-2 genes in rats

    ALI H. ABU ALMAATY1, BASMA M. HENDAM2, FAYEZ ALTHOBAITI3, EMAN FAYAD3,*, YASMIN M. ABD EL-AZIZ1

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.1, pp. 219-234, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.017623 - 28 September 2021

Abstract The hepatotoxic effect of potassium bromide (KBr) on rat liver tissues were determined, as well as the potential protective effect of Tegillaraca granosa (T. granosa) flesh body extract. Twenty adult male albino rats were equally distributed into four groups; Group (I) treated with physiological saline (control group), Group (II) was orally gavaged by 200 mg/kg of T. granosa body extract day after day, Group (III) was intoxicated by KBr (150 mg/kg bwt day after day orally) and finally, Group (IV) was given a combination of T. granosa flesh body extract plus KBr with similar doses in the second and… More >

GIS analysis of hypsometry and basin asymmetry factor in Htab river basin and tectonic implications (Central Atlas, Tunisia)

    Ali Chaieb, Noamen Rebai

    Revue Internationale de Géomatique, Vol.29, No.3, pp. 287-296, 2019, DOI:10.3166/rig.2019.00082

Abstract The geomorphology of the Htab river watershed is mainly guided by the action of the E-W Kasserine fault. This activity influenced the installed hydrographic system. To see the impact of neotectonic on the Htab river watershed, four morphometric indices were applied: the elongation ratio, the hypsometric curve, the hypsometric integral, and the asymmetry factor. The processing and calculation of these indices were based on global DEMs (Digital Elevation Models). The result obtained shows an important link between the activity of the Kasserine fault, the geomorphological behavior of the Htab river watershed and the hydrographic network. More >

Creatine supplementation in trained rats causes changes in myenteric neurons and intestinal wall morphometry

Solange Marta Franzói De MORAES, Thais Andréia BROGIO, Jacqueline Nelisis ZANONi, Mariana Cristina Vicente Umada ZAPATER, Sidney Barnabé PEREs, Luzmarina HERNANDES

    BIOCELL, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 37-43, 2013, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2013.37.037

Abstract Creatine is widely used by athletes as an ergogenic resource. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of creatine supplementation on the duodenum of rats submitted to physical training. The number and myenteric neuronal cell bodies as well mucosal and muscular tunic morphometry were evaluated. Control animals received a standard chow for 8 weeks, and the treated ones received the standard chow for 4 weeks and were later fed with the same chow but added with 2% creatine. Animals were divided in groups: sedentary, sedentary supplemented with creatine, trained and trained supplemented… More >

Quantitative measures of leaf epidermal cells as a taxonomic and phylogenetic tool for the identification of Stanhopea species (Orchidaceae)

    Foroughbakhch R, RJ Ferry Sr, JL Hernández-Piñero, MA Alvarado-Vázquez, A Rocha-Estrada

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.77, pp. 113-127, 2008, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2008.77.113

Abstract Orchids of the genus Stanhopea are currently identified only by their floral structure characteristics. A statistical analysis of a significant number of species of this genus disclosed that measurements of adaxial and abaxial epidermal cell surface areas can be correlated with specific recognized species by a leaf printing method. This allows an objectively either positive or nearly positive confirmation of the identity of a species in the absence of flowers and without damage to plants. When ordering the mean values obtained for these surface areas in each species in a decreasing order, a correlation was observed More >

Histomorphological and quantitative immunohistochemical changes in the rat pancreas during aging

    F.L. RICCILLO, M.I. BRACAMONTE, G.M. CÓNSOLE, C.L.A. GÓMEZ DUMM

    BIOCELL, Vol.28, No.2, pp. 127-134, 2004, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2004.28.127

Abstract Although the endocrine pancreas is the purpose of several deep investigations, morphological data referred to the effect of aging on the gland are not homogeneous. The purpose of the current work was to analyze the changes occurring in the pancreas of aged rats, with especial reference to the islet cell populations. Six young (Y), old (O) and senescent (S) male Sprague-Dawley rats were used. The pancreas tails were processed for light microscopy and studied by means of routine stains as well as by immunohistochemical identification of insulin-, glucagon-, somatostatin-, and pancreatic polypeptide- secreting cells (Dako… More >
