Pre-breeding in Rice Development: Phenotypic-Genotypic Evaluation Associated with High Yield and Early Harvesting Traits

    Alwa Widi Aisya1, Erlina Ambarwati1,*, Supriyanta1, Taufan Alam1, Rizky Pasthika Kirana1, I Gusti Komang Dana Arsana2, Vina Eka Aristya2, Ardian Elonard Purba2, Taryono1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.11, pp. 3073-3089, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.058098 - 30 November 2024

Abstract The breeding process involves developing techniques to create cultivars that thrive in the ever-changing global climate, allowing for early harvesting and high yield. This study aimed to screen rice genotypes with early harvesting and high yield to develop new-generation cultivars. The study was conducted in a field experiment at the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from December 2022 to April 2023. Ten genotypes were laid out using an Augmented Randomized Complete Block Design (ARCBD) with three rows and six columns. The observations were macro and micro-climate,… More >

The mtDNA Microsatellite Instability Indicated the Prognosis of Chinese Patients with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Xiaolin Wu, Lanping Diao, Guimin Zhao, Chen Huang, Yingzhen Yao, Zhe Gao, Lili Wu*

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.1, pp. 141-148, 2021, DOI:10.32604/Oncologie.2021.014790 - 30 March 2021

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the relationship and diagnostic potential between microsatellite instability (MSI) caused by a 9-bp GGGGGTAGA insertion/deletion in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) at position 8272 and clinical features in Chinese patients diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The 9-bp GGGGGTAGA insertion/deletion in the non-d-loop area of the mitochondrial DNA at the 8272 locus was detected by PCR in 139 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma patient samples. GGGGGTAGA insertion/deletion was found in a total of 16 cases (11.5%), including nine T cell lymphoma and seven B cell lymphoma cases. The 5-year survival rate was 33.3% in patients with non-Hodgkin’s More >

Grapevine Phenological Quantitative Trait SSR Genotyping Using High-Throughput HRM-PCR Analysis

    Murad Awad1, Photini V. Mylona2, Alexios N. Polidoros1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.4, pp. 905-923, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.011235 - 09 November 2020

Abstract Discrimination among grapevine varieties based on quantitative traits, such as flowering, veraison and ripening dates is crucial for variety selection in the context of climate change and in breeding programs. These traits are under complex genetic control for which 6 linked SSR loci (VVS2, VVIn16, VMC7G3, VrZAG29, VMC5G7, and VVIB23) have been identified. Using these markers in HRM-PCR analysis, we assessed genetic diversity among a large collection of 192 grapevine varieties. The grapevine germplasm used encompasses the majority of Greek vineyard with 181 varieties, 3 prominent foreign varieties and 11 varieties of Palestinian origin. The… More >

Association between microsatellites and resistance to Mal de Río Cuarto in maize by discriminant analysis

    Bonamico1 NC, MG Balzarini2, AT Arroyo2, MA Ibañez1, DG Díaz3, JC Salerno3, MA Di Renzo1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.79, pp. 31-38, 2010, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2010.79.031

Abstract Resistance to Mal de Río Cuarto (MRC) disease in maize (Zea mays L.) is important in Argentina because the crop area involves a wide region where the disease is endemic. Molecular marker-assisted selection could be used as an additional selection tool to enhance precision of the genotype selection for resistance. It demands the identification of informative markers. Microsatellite (SSR) markers linked to gene(s) associated with resistance to MRC have been reported from previous QTL analyses. These analyses have been made on linkage maps derived from a relatively early mapping population. In advanced populations, where highly distinct… More >
