Abstract Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a malignancy of bone marrow lymphoid precursors. Despite effective treatments, the causes of its progression or recurrence are still unknown. Finding prognostic biomarkers is needed for early diagnosis and more effective treatment. This study was performed to identify long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) involved in ALL progression by constructing a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network. These lncRNAs may serve as potential new biomarkers in the development of ALL. The GSE67684 dataset identified changes in lncRNAs and mRNAs involved in ALL progression. Data from this study were re-analyzed, and probes related to lncRNAs were retrieved. Targetscan, miRTarBase,… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.29, No.6, pp. 411-423, 2021, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.026236

Abstract Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) act as key regulators controlling complex cellular behaviors in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We investigated the expression of lncRNA PRRT3 antisense RNA 1 (PRRT3-AS1) in paired samples of NSCLC and adjacent normal tissues from a patient cohort in our hospital using real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and found that it was significantly higher in NSCLC tissue than in normal tissue, consistent with The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Furthermore, functional investigation revealed that lncRNA PRRT3-AS1 depletion inhibited NSCLC-cell proliferation, colony formation, invasion, and migration, whereas its overexpression exerted the opposite effects. Moreover, PRRT3-AS1… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.29, No.6, pp. 393-400, 2021, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.025816

Abstract Melanoma is one of the most aggressive types of malignant tumors, commonly affecting young individuals. The treatment of metastatic tumors remains obscure due to the resistance of tumor cells to drugs mediated by various mechanisms. The acquisition of a resistant phenotype is associated with both genetic and epigenetic alterations in cancer cells. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate whether microRNA (miR)-204-5p could promote alterations in the cell cycle and apoptosis of dacarbazine (DTIC)-treated melanoma cells. Quantitative real time PCR showed that transfection of DTIC-treated SK-MEL-2 melanoma cells with miR-204-5p mimics significantly upregulated miR-204-5p. However, flow cytometric analysis revealed that… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.29, No.4, pp. 263-273, 2021, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.03568

Abstract The abnormal expression of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) is frequently observed in gastric cancer (GC) and considered an important driving force in GC progression. However, little is known regarding the involvement of TMEM147-AS1 in GC. Therefore, we examined TMEM147-AS1 expression in GC and determined its prognostic value. In addition, TMEM147-AS1 expression was depleted to identify the functional changes in response to TMEM147-AS1 deficiency. Using the cancer genome atlas dataset and our own cohort, we identified a strong expression of TMEM147-AS1 in GC. Increased TMEM147-AS1 levels in GC showed a significant association with poor prognosis. TMEM147-AS1 interference resulted in the inhibition… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.29, No.4, pp. 291-303, 2021, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.025172

Abstract Increasing numbers of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are implicated in breast cancer oncogenicity. However, the contribution of LINC02568 toward breast cancer progression remains unclear and requires further investigation. Herein, we evaluated LINC02568 expression in breast cancer and clarified its effect on disease malignancy. We also investigated the mechanisms underlying the pro-oncogenic role of LINC02568. Consequently, LINC02568 was upregulated in breast cancer samples, with a notable association with worse overall survival. Functionally, depleted LINC02568 suppressed cell proliferation, colony formation, and metastasis, whereas LINC02568 overexpression exerted the opposite effects. Our mechanistic investigations suggested that LINC02568 was physically bound to and sequestered microRNA-874-3p… More >
