A Metaheuristic Technique for Cluster-Based Feature Selection of DNA Methylation Data for Cancer

    Noureldin Eissa1,2,*, Uswah Khairuddin1,3, Rubiyah Yusof1, Ahmed Madani2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 2817-2838, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033632

Abstract Epigenetics is the study of phenotypic variations that do not alter DNA sequences. Cancer epigenetics has grown rapidly over the past few years as epigenetic alterations exist in all human cancers. One of these alterations is DNA methylation; an epigenetic process that regulates gene expression and often occurs at tumor suppressor gene loci in cancer. Therefore, studying this methylation process may shed light on different gene functions that cannot otherwise be interpreted using the changes that occur in DNA sequences. Currently, microarray technologies; such as Illumina Infinium BeadChip assays; are used to study DNA methylation… More >

Skill Optimization Algorithm: A New Human-Based Metaheuristic Technique

    Hadi Givi1, Marie Hubalovska2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 179-202, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.030379

Abstract Metaheuristic algorithms are widely used in solving optimization problems. In this paper, a new metaheuristic algorithm called Skill Optimization Algorithm (SOA) is proposed to solve optimization problems. The fundamental inspiration in designing SOA is human efforts to acquire and improve skills. Various stages of SOA are mathematically modeled in two phases, including: (i) exploration, skill acquisition from experts and (ii) exploitation, skill improvement based on practice and individual effort. The efficiency of SOA in optimization applications is analyzed through testing this algorithm on a set of twenty-three standard benchmark functions of a variety of unimodal, More >

UAV Clustering Scheme for FANETs using Elbow-Hybrid Metaheuristic Techniques

    Kundan Kumar*, Rajeev Arya

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 321-337, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.016748

Abstract Great strides have been made to realistically deploy multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) within the commercial domain, which demands a proper coordination and reliable communication among the UAVs. UAVs suffer from limited time of flight. Conventional techniques suffer from high delay, low throughput, and early node death due to aerial topology of UAV networks. To deal with these issues, this paper proposes a UAV parameter vector which considers node energy, channel state information and mobility of UAVs. By intelligently estimating the proposed parameter, the state of UAV can be predicted closely. Accordingly, efficient clustering may… More >
