Melanoma Detection Based on Hybridization of Extended Feature Space

    Anuj Kumar, Shakti Kumar*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 2175-2198, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.039093 - 21 June 2023

Abstract Melanoma is a perfidious form of skin cancer. The study offers a hybrid framework for the automatic classification of melanoma. An Automatic Melanoma Detection System (AMDS) is used for identifying melanoma from the infected area of the skin image using image processing techniques. A larger number of pre-existing automatic melanoma detection systems are either commercial or their accuracy can be further improved. The research problem is to identify the best preprocessing technique, feature extractor, and classifier for melanoma detection using publically available MED-NODE data set. AMDS goes through four stages. The preprocessing stage is for… More >

Amani Abdulrahman Albraikan1, Nadhem NEMRI2, Mimouna Abdullah Alkhonaini3, Anwer Mustafa Hilal4,*, Ishfaq Yaseen4, Abdelwahed Motwakel4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 2443-2459, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.026379 - 31 October 2022

Abstract Melanoma remains a serious illness which is a common form of skin cancer. Since the earlier detection of melanoma reduces the mortality rate, it is essential to design reliable and automated disease diagnosis model using dermoscopic images. The recent advances in deep learning (DL) models find useful to examine the medical image and make proper decisions. In this study, an automated deep learning based melanoma detection and classification (ADL-MDC) model is presented. The goal of the ADL-MDC technique is to examine the dermoscopic images to determine the existence of melanoma. The ADL-MDC technique performs contrast… More >

IoMT Enabled Melanoma Detection Using Improved Region Growing Lesion Boundary Extraction

Tanzila Saba1, Rabia Javed2,3, Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim2, Amjad Rehman1,*, Saeed Ali Bahaj4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 6219-6237, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020865 - 14 January 2022

Abstract The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and cloud-based healthcare applications, services are beneficial for better decision-making in recent years. Melanoma is a deadly cancer with a higher mortality rate than other skin cancer types such as basal cell, squamous cell, and Merkel cell. However, detection and treatment at an early stage can result in a higher chance of survival. The classical methods of detection are expensive and labor-intensive. Also, they rely on a trained practitioner's level, and the availability of the needed equipment is essential for the early detection of Melanoma. The current improvement in… More >

Certain Investigations on Melanoma Detection Using Non-Subsampled Bendlet Transform with Different Classifiers

    S. Poovizhi, T. R. Ganesh Babu, R. Praveena*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 201-219, 2021, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2021.017984 - 27 October 2021

Abstract Skin is the largest organ and outer enclosure of the integumentary system that protects the human body from pathogens. Among various cancers in the world, skin cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancer which can be either melanoma or non-melanoma. Melanoma cancers are very fatal compared with non-melanoma cancers but the chances of survival rate are high when diagnosed and treated earlier. The main aim of this work is to analyze and investigate the performance of Non-Subsampled Bendlet Transform (NSBT) on various classifiers for detecting melanoma from dermoscopic images. NSBT is a multiscale More >
