Improving Okra Performance: Biostimulants and their Influence on Yield, Quality, Physiology, and Nutrient Composition

    Qurat-Ul-Ain Raza1,2, Abdur Rehim1,*, Muhammad Amjad Bashir1,3,*, Mingzheng Duan4, Yucong Geng3, Abdulwahed Fahad Alrefaei5

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.12, pp. 3531-3548, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.057356 - 31 December 2024

Abstract Chemical fertilizers have contributed to improving crop production and coping with food safety challenges, but their excessive application in agriculture has resulted in soil and environmental problems. The present study was performed to assess the potential of biostimulants as an alternative to chemical fertilizers. A pot experiment was conducted to examine the response of okra against different biostimulants, including glycine (G.L.), lysine (L.Y.), aspartic acid (A.A.), vitamin B complex (V.B.), and chemical fertilizers (control; C.K.). The results revealed that G.L. and V.B. significantly improved chlorophyll a (12.51%) and chlorophyll b (7.14%) contents in okra… More >

Lysine demethylase 5B transcriptionally regulates TREM1 in human cardiac fibroblasts

    CHUNLING LIANG1,#, JING CHEN2,#, XIAOJIE CHEN1, WEI YAN3, JIE YU4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.7, pp. 1105-1113, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.050509 - 03 July 2024

Abstract Background: A differential gene, triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM1), was identified in blood sequencing datasets from myocardial infarction patients and healthy controls. Myocardial fibrosis following myocardial infarction significantly contributes to cardiac dysfunction. Objectives: This study aimed to unveil the intrinsic regulatory mechanism of TREM1 in myocardial fibrosis. Methods: Mimicking pathology by angiotensin II (Ang II) treatment of human cardiac fibroblasts (HCFs), the impacts of TREM1 knockdown on its proliferation, migration, and secretion of the pro-fibrotic matrix were identified. Using the Human Transcription Factor Database (HumanTFDB) website, lysine-specific demethylase 5B (KDM5B) was found to… More >

ILipo-PseAAC: Identification of Lipoylation Sites Using Statistical Moments and General PseAAC

Talha Imtiaz Baig1,*, Yaser Daanial Khan1, Talha Mahboob Alam2, Bharat Biswal3, Hanan Aljuaid4, Durdana Qaiser Gillani5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 215-230, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021849 - 03 November 2021

Abstract Lysine Lipoylation is a protective and conserved Post Translational Modification (PTM) in proteomics research like prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is connected with many biological processes and closely linked with many metabolic diseases. To develop a perfect and accurate classification model for identifying lipoylation sites at the protein level, the computational methods and several other factors play a key role in this purpose. Usually, most of the techniques and different traditional experimental models have a very high cost. They are time-consuming; so, it is required to construct a predictor model to extract lysine lipoylation sites. This… More >

Global Lysine Acetylome Analysis of Flower Bud Development in Catalpa bungei

    Danlong Jing1,2, Nan Wang1, Nan Lu1, Guanzheng Qu3, Guolu Liang2, Wenjun Ma1, Shougong Zhang1,*, Junhui Wang1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.3, pp. 507-524, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.017644 - 26 October 2021

Abstract Lysine acetylation, a reversible and dynamic post-translational modification, plays pivotal roles in regulating many biological processes in plants. However, the information of lysine acetylation during flower development of woody angiosperm remains unclear. Herein, we identified a total of 667 lysine acetylation sites in 467 proteins in flower buds of Catalpa Bungei. The acetylated proteins were mainly involved in the pathways of carbon metabolism, glycometabolism and oxidative phosphorylation. Using functional enrichment analysis, 61 and 13 acetylated proteins were involved in the glycometabolism and oxidative phosphorylation pathways, respectively. This suggests that lysine acetylated proteins play critical roles in… More >

Gly-LysPred: Identification of Lysine Glycation Sites in Protein Using Position Relative Features and Statistical Moments via Chou’s 5 Step Rule

    Shaheena Khanum1, Muhammad Adeel Ashraf2, Asim Karim1, Bilal Shoaib3, Muhammad Adnan Khan4, Rizwan Ali Naqvi5, Kamran Siddique6, Mohammed Alswaitti6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 2165-2181, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.013646 - 26 November 2020

Abstract Glycation is a non-enzymatic post-translational modification which assigns sugar molecule and residues to a peptide. It is a clinically important attribute to numerous age-related, metabolic, and chronic diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s, renal failure, etc. Identification of a non-enzymatic reaction are quite challenging in research. Manual identification in labs is a very costly and time-consuming process. In this research, we developed an accurate, valid, and a robust model named as Gly-LysPred to differentiate the glycated sites from non-glycated sites. Comprehensive techniques using position relative features are used for feature extraction. An algorithm named as a… More >

Fully Renewable Thermoplastic Poly(ester urethane urea)s from Bio-based Diisocyanates

    Donglin Tang1,2, Shanmugam Thiyagarajan2,3, Bart A.J. Noordover1,*, Cor E. Koning1, Daan S. van Es3, Jacco van Haveren

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.1, No.3, pp. 222-230, 2013, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2013.634116

Abstract A series of fully renewable poly(ester urethane urea)s (PEUs) were synthesized from bio-based starting materials, e.g., the polyester diol, the diisocyanates including L-lysine diisocyanate (LDI) and isoidide diisocyanate (IIDI), the chain-extenders including 1,4-diaminobutane (bDA), diaminoisoidide (iDA) and di(aminobutyl) urea (b2 DA). It is found that the PEU based on the novel diisocyanate, IIDI, exhibits satisfactory thermal and mechanical properties. The LDI-based PEUs show less favorable thermal and mechanical properties than the IIDI-based counterpart, since the chemical structure of LDI is less regular than that of IIDI. However, by introducing a urea-containing dimeric diamine (b2 DA) More >
