    KL Vasudev1, Manish Pandey2, Jaan H. Pu3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.21, No.7, pp. 1545-1569, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2025.065289 - 31 July 2025

Abstract This study presents a comparative analysis of optimisation strategies for designing hull shapes of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), paying special attention to drag, lift-to-drag ratio, and delivered power. A fully integrated optimisation framework is developed accordingly, combining a single-objective Genetic Algorithm (GA) for design parameter generation, Computer-Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) for the creation of hull geometries and associated fluid domains, and a Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) solver for evaluating hydrodynamic performance metrics. This unified approach eliminates manual intervention, enabling automated determination of optimal hull configurations. Three distinct optimisation problems are addressed using the proposed methodology. First,… More >

    Olga Vlasova*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.9, pp. 2127-2137, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.051202 - 23 August 2024

Abstract The dynamics of rotating hydrodynamic systems containing phase inclusions are interesting due to the related widespread occurrence in nature and technology. The influence of external force fields on rotating systems can be used to control the dynamics of inclusions of various types. Controlling inclusions is of current interest for space technologies. In low gravity, even a slight vibration effect can lead to the appearance of a force acting on phase inclusions near a solid boundary. When vibrations are applied to multiphase hydrodynamic systems, the oscillating body intensively interacts with the fluid and introduces changes in… More >

Analysis of Maximum Liquid Carrying Capacity Based on Conventional Tubing Plunger Gas Lift

    Yanqun Yu1,*, Wenhao Xu1, Yahui Huangfu1, Jinhai Liu1,2, Bensheng Wang1, Kai Liu1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.6, pp. 1521-1533, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.047986 - 21 May 2024

Abstract China’s unconventional gas fields have a large number of low-productivity and low-efficiency wells, many of which are located in remote and environmentally harsh mountainous areas. To address the long-term stable production of these gas wells, plunger-lift technology plays an important role. In order to fully understand and accurately grasp the drainage and gas production mechanisms of plunger-lift, a mechanical model of plunger-liquid column uplift in the plunger-lift process was established, focusing on conventional plunger-lift systems and representative wellbore configurations in the Linxing region. The operating casing pressure of the plunger-lift process and the calculation method… More >

Influence of Flap Parameters on the Aerodynamic Performance of a Wind-Turbine Airfoil

    Yuanjun Dai1,2, Jingan Cui1, Baohua Li1,*, Cong Wang1, Kunju Shi1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 771-786, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029584 - 28 March 2024

Abstract A numerical method has been used to analyze the flow field related to a NACA 0015 airfoil with and without a flap and assess the influence of the flap height and angle on the surface pressure coefficient, lift coefficient, and drag coefficient. The numerical results demonstrate that the flap can effectively improve the lift coefficient of the airfoil; however, at small attack angles, its influence is significantly reduced. When the angle of attack exceeds the critical stall angle and the flap height is 1.5% of the chord length, the influence of the flap becomes very More >

Influence of Anteroposterior Symmetrical Aero-Wings on the Aerodynamic Performance of High-Speed Train

Peiheng He, Jiye Zhang*, Lan Zhang, Jiaqi Wang, Yuzhe Ma

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 937-953, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.043700 - 30 December 2023

Abstract The running stability of high-speed train is largely constrained by the wheel-rail coupling relationship, and the continuous wear between the wheel and rail surfaces will profoundly affect the dynamic performance of the train. In recent years, under the background of increasing train speed, some scientific researchers have proposed a new idea of using the lift force generated by the aerodynamic wings (aero-wing) installed on the roof to reduce the sprung load of the carriage in order to alleviate the wear and tear of the wheel and rail. Based on the bidirectional running characteristics of high-speed… More >

Experimental and Numerical Investigation on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of High-Speed Pantographs with Supporting Beam Wind Deflectors

    Shiyang Song1,*, Tongxin Han2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 127-145, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.030137 - 08 November 2023

Abstract Aiming to mitigate the aerodynamic lift force imbalance between pantograph strips, which exacerbates wear and affects the current collection performance of the pantograph-catenary system, a study has been conducted to support the beam deflector optimization using a combination of experimental measurements and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The results demonstrate that the size, position, and installation orientation of the wind deflectors significantly influence the amount of force compensation. They also indicate that the front strip deflectors should be installed downwards and the rear strip deflectors upwards, thereby forming a “π” shape. Moreover, the lift force More >

    Matt S. Ashley1, Jason Phillips2, Gregg Eure3

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.30, No.2, pp. 11509-11515, 2023

Abstract Millions of men in North America suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) are managed on medical therapy. Most patients, however, report poor adherence, and yet relatively few pursue more definitive surgical solutions. The Prostatic Urethral Lift (PUL) was designed to address many of the patient-identified barriers to surgery, namely iatrogenic sexual dysfunction, incontinence, lengthy recovery and postoperative catheterization. Randomized studies and large real world multicenter and database studies have demonstrated safety and effectiveness of PUL when addressing lateral lobe disease. In recent years further technique and device development… More >
