Xueqin Zhang, Zerui Wang, Fei Xu*

    Journal of Psychology in Africa, Vol.35, No.5, pp. 609-618, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jpa.2025.066587 - 24 October 2025

Abstract This research sought to examine whether employees’ views of distributive justice within the organization moderate the influence of exploitative leadership on the depletion of their self-control resources, and whether self-control depletion serves as a mechanism linking exploitative leadership to employees’ taking charge behavior. Data were obtained from 299 employees in China (51.8% male; average age = 27.67 years, SD = 3.83) using a two-wave survey design with a two-week interval. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that distributive justice did not significantly buffer the impact of exploitative leadership on self-control depletion. Furthermore, exploitative leadership was found to More >

A moderated mediation model analysis found that transformational leadership predicts higher employee bootleg innovation. Creative self-efficacy mediated the positive relationship between transformational leadership and employee bootleg. Additionally, leader-member exchange significantly moderated the relationship between transformational leadership and creative self-efficacy, for a further enhancement of bootleg innovation. These findings underscore the importance More >

    Lingnan Kong1, Nuo Chen1, Ruiqi Wang2,*, Shunkun Yu1

    Journal of Psychology in Africa, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 335-343, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jpa.2025.068040 - 31 July 2025

Abstract This study examined how exploitative leadership undermines employees’ experience of flow with work role overload and traditionalist values. Data were collected from 361 staff members across diverse industries in China (females = 58.17%, mean age = 32.14, SD = 5.83). Structural equation modeling results indicated that exploitative leadership reduces employees’ work-related flow via increased role overload. Furthermore, employees’ traditionality level moderates the exploitative leadership effects on role overload. Specifically, employees with higher traditionality reported lower role overload when experiencing exploitative leadership, suggesting that cultural values may buffer its negative impact. This study contributes to understanding More >

    Seungju Hyun1, Xyle Ku1,2, Sungrok Kang1, Yoonyoung Choi1, Jaewon Ko1, Hyunyup Lee1,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.25, No.11, pp. 1187-1195, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.030745 - 08 December 2023

Abstract Owing to the ubiquitous use of smartphones by soldiers, military researchers have an increasing interest in potentially problematic side effects such as smartphone overdependence. This raises a question regarding the psychological mechanisms underlying the potentially self-damaging use of smartphones. Here, we address this question by analyzing how heterogeneity in commander’s good leadership explains subordinate soldiers’ differences in self-control and smartphone use. Specifically, we found that subordinate soldiers who thought their commander's leadership was good were self-regulated, less dependent on smartphones, less stressed, and finally had good mental health. This result indicates that commander’s good leadership More >
