Performance-Oriented Layout Synthesis for Quantum Computing

    Chi-Chou Kao1,*, Hung-Yi Lin2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.6, pp. 1581-1594, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2024.055073 - 22 November 2024

Abstract Layout synthesis in quantum computing is crucial due to the physical constraints of quantum devices where quantum bits (qubits) can only interact effectively with their nearest neighbors. This constraint severely impacts the design and efficiency of quantum algorithms, as arranging qubits optimally can significantly reduce circuit depth and improve computational performance. To tackle the layout synthesis challenge, we propose an algorithm based on integer linear programming (ILP). ILP is well-suited for this problem as it can formulate the optimization objective of minimizing circuit depth while adhering to the nearest neighbor interaction constraint. The algorithm aims… More >

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.6, pp. 283-300, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jai.2024.056303 - 18 October 2024

Abstract To enhance the rationality of the layout of electric vehicle charging stations, meet the actual needs of users, and optimise the service range and coverage efficiency of charging stations, this paper proposes an optimisation strategy for the layout of electric vehicle charging stations that integrates Mini Batch K-Means and simulated annealing algorithms. By constructing a circle-like service area model with the charging station as the centre and a certain distance as the radius, the maximum coverage of electric vehicle charging stations in the region and the influence of different regional environments on charging demand are… More >

    Rudraneel Dutta*, Shreya Mohanty

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.6, pp. 177-192, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jai.2024.050706 - 19 July 2024

Abstract Traditionally, exam preparation involves manually analyzing past question papers to identify and prioritize key topics. This research proposes a data-driven solution to automate this process using techniques like Document Layout Segmentation, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) for topic modelling. This study aims to develop a system that utilizes machine learning and topic modelling to identify and rank key topics from historical exam papers, aiding students in efficient exam preparation. The research addresses the difficulty in exam preparation due to the manual and labour-intensive process of analyzing past exam papers to identify… More >

Numerical Analysis of Perforation during Hydraulic Fracture Initiation Based on Continuous–Discontinuous Element Method

    Rui Zhang1, Lixiang Wang2,*, Jing Li1,4, Chun Feng2, Yiming Zhang1,3,4,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.2, pp. 2103-2129, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.049885 - 20 May 2024

Abstract Perforation is a pivotal technique employed to establish main flow channels within the reservoir formation at the outset of hydraulic fracturing operations. Optimizing perforation designs is critical for augmenting the efficacy of hydraulic fracturing and boosting oil or gas production. In this study, we employ a hybrid finite-discrete element method, known as the continuous–discontinuous element method (CDEM), to simulate the initiation of post-perforation hydraulic fractures and to derive enhanced design parameters. The model incorporates the four most prevalent perforation geometries, as delineated in an engineering technical report. Real-world perforations deviate from the ideal cylindrical shape, More >

Nguyen Huu Loc Khuu1,2,3, Thuy Duy Truong1,2,3, Quoc Dien Le1,2,3, Tran Thanh Cong Vu1,2,3, Hoa Binh Tran1,2,3, Tuong Quan Vo1,2,3,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.39, No.2, pp. 255-279, 2024, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2024.043854 - 21 May 2024

Abstract Optimizing Flow Path Design (FPD) is a popular research area in transportation system design, but its application to Overhead Transportation Systems (OTSs) has been limited. This study focuses on optimizing a double-spine flow path design for OTSs with 10 stations by minimizing the total travel distance for both loaded and empty flows. We employ transportation methods, specifically the North-West Corner and Stepping-Stone methods, to determine empty vehicle travel flows. Additionally, the Tabu Search (TS) algorithm is applied to branch the 10 stations into two main layout branches. The results obtained from our proposed method demonstrate More >

GNN Representation Learning and Multi-Objective Variable Neighborhood Search Algorithm for Wind Farm Layout Optimization

    Yingchao Li1,*, Jianbin Wang1, Haibin Wang2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.4, pp. 1049-1065, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.045228 - 26 March 2024

Abstract With the increasing demand for electrical services, wind farm layout optimization has been one of the biggest challenges that we have to deal with. Despite the promising performance of the heuristic algorithm on the route network design problem, the expressive capability and search performance of the algorithm on multi-objective problems remain unexplored. In this paper, the wind farm layout optimization problem is defined. Then, a multi-objective algorithm based on Graph Neural Network (GNN) and Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) algorithm is proposed. GNN provides the basis representations for the following search algorithm so that the expressiveness… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.9, pp. 2361-2384, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.027470 - 16 May 2023

Abstract In recent years, Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) have played an increasingly important role in the construction and monitoring of underwater pile foundations. However, due to the open frame structure of such vehicles, a gap of knowledge still exists with regard to their hydrodynamic behavior. In this study, the hydrodynamic stability of such vehicles is investigated numerically by means of a multiple reference frame method. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the ROV when it moves horizontally and upward in the vertical plane are examined. It is found that there is interference between the horizontal and vertical thrusters More >

Kunfu Wang, Yongsheng Hao, Jie Cao*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 1033-1052, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.038036 - 29 April 2023

Abstract Meteorological model tasks require considerable meteorological basis data to support their execution. However, if the task and the meteorological datasets are located on different clouds, that enhances the cost, execution time, and energy consumption of execution meteorological tasks. Therefore, the data layout and task scheduling may work together in the meteorological cloud to avoid being in various locations. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper that tries to schedule meteorological tasks with the help of the meteorological data set layout. First, we use the FP-Growth-M (frequent-pattern growth for meteorological model datasets) More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 3685-3701, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.032024 - 03 April 2023

Abstract One of the important research issues in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is the optimal layout designing for the deployment of sensor nodes. It directly affects the quality of monitoring, cost, and detection capability of WSNs. Layout optimization is an NP-hard combinatorial problem, which requires optimization of multiple competing objectives like cost, coverage, connectivity, lifetime, load balancing, and energy consumption of sensor nodes. In the last decade, several meta-heuristic optimization techniques have been proposed to solve this problem, such as genetic algorithms (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). However, these approaches either provided computationally expensive solutions… More >
