    Alex Ximenes Naves1, Gladys Maquera2, Assed Haddad1, Dieter Boer3,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.7, pp. 2611-2636, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.061971 - 27 June 2025

Abstract The growing concern for energy efficiency and the increasing deployment of intermittent renewable energies has led to the development of technologies for capturing, storing, and discharging energy. Supercapacitors can be considered where batteries do not meet the requirements. However, supercapacitors in systems with a slower charge/discharge cycle, such as photovoltaic systems (PVS), present other obstacles that make replacing batteries more challenging. An extensive literature review unveils a knowledge gap regarding a methodological comparison of batteries and supercapacitors. In this study, we address the technological feasibility of intermittent renewable energy generation systems, focusing on storage solutions… More > Graphic Abstract

    Jiran Zhu1, Silin He1, Chun Chen2,*, Li Zhou2, Hongqing Li1, Di Zhang1, Fenglin Hua1, Tianhao Zhu2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.6, pp. 2465-2483, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.065453 - 29 May 2025

Abstract In the islanded operation of distribution networks, due to the mismatch of line impedance at the inverter output, conventional droop control leads to inaccurate power sharing according to capacity, resulting in voltage and frequency fluctuations under minor external disturbances. To address this issue, this paper introduces an enhanced scheme for power sharing and voltage-frequency control. First, to solve the power distribution problem, we propose an adaptive virtual impedance control based on multi-agent consensus, which allows for precise active and reactive power allocation without requiring feeder impedance knowledge. Moreover, a novel consensus-based voltage and frequency control More >

Xin Zhang*, Mingming Yao, Daiwen He, Jihong Zhang, Peihong Yang, Xiaoming Zhang

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.1, pp. 349-378, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.057676 - 27 December 2024

Abstract In this paper, a bilevel optimization model of an integrated energy operator (IEO)–load aggregator (LA) is constructed to address the coordinate optimization challenge of multiple stakeholder island integrated energy system (IIES). The upper level represents the integrated energy operator, and the lower level is the electricity-heat-gas load aggregator. Owing to the benefit conflict between the upper and lower levels of the IIES, a dynamic pricing mechanism for coordinating the interests of the upper and lower levels is proposed, combined with factors such as the carbon emissions of the IIES, as well as the lower load… More > Graphic Abstract

    Chao Zhou1, Narisu Wang1, Fuyin Ni1,2,*, Wenchao Zhang1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.1, pp. 265-284, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.057380 - 27 December 2024

Abstract Uneven power distribution, transient voltage, and frequency deviations are observed in the photovoltaic storage hybrid inverter during the switching between grid-connected and island modes. In response to these issues, this paper proposes a grid-connected/island switching control strategy for photovoltaic storage hybrid inverters based on the modified chimpanzee optimization algorithm. The proposed strategy incorporates coupling compensation and power differentiation elements based on the traditional droop control. Then, it combines the angular frequency and voltage amplitude adjustments provided by the phase-locked loop-free pre-synchronization control strategy. Precise pre-synchronization is achieved by regulating the virtual current to zero and… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.11, pp. 2565-2583, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.053362 - 28 October 2024

Abstract The quality of crushing, power consumption, and discharging performance of a straw crusher are greatly influenced by the characteristics of its internal flow field. To enhance the straw crusher’s flow field properties and improve the efficiency with which crushed material is discharged, first, the main structural parameters influencing the air flow in the crusher are discussed. Then, the coupled gas-solid flow field in the straw crusher is numerically calculated through solution of the Navier-Stokes equations and application of the discrete element method (DEM). Finally, the discharge performance index of the crusher is examined through detailed More >

Study on Temperature Distribution and Smoke Spreading Behavior of Different Fire Source Locations in the Underwater W-Shaped Island-Crossing Tunnel

    Zhisheng Xu1, Juan Wang1, Zihan Yu1, Jiaming Zhao2,*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.4, pp. 1129-1151, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.053695 - 30 August 2024

Abstract Called island-crossing tunnels, some specific underwater tunneling projects face constraints imposed by geological and water conditions, necessitating their passage through artificial or natural islands. The longitudinal of the tunnel follows a W-shaped distribution. The congestion situation does not allow for immediate longitudinal smoke exhaust at the early stage of the fire, and the natural spread of smoke is complicated. An exhaustive investigation was carried out to analyze the smoke behaviors during a fire incident, employing the fire dynamics software FDS, considering five slopes and four fire locations. The simulation results reveal that the layer of… More >

Abstract The islanded mode is one of the connection modes of the grid distributed generation resources. In this study, a distributed generation resource is connected to linear and nonlinear loads via a three-phase inverter where a control method needing no current sensors or compensator elements is applied to the distribute generation system in the islanded mode. This control method has two main loops in each phase. The first loop controls the voltage control loops that adjust the three-phase point of common coupling, the amplitude of the non-sinusoidal reference waveform and the near-state pulse width modulation (NSPWM) More >

Do Geographically Isolated Grasslands Follow the Principle of Island Biogeography in a Landscape Scale? Taking Poyang Lake Grassland as an Example

    Shiqi Luo1,3, Wenbo Chen2,3,*, Lei He4, Qiongbing Xiong1,3

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.2, pp. 455-470, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.022466 - 12 October 2022

Abstract As one of the basic theories of biodiversity conservation, island biogeography has been widely accepted in the past decades. Originally, island biogeography was put forward and applied in oceanic environments. But later on, it was found out that the application was not only limited to oceanic islands, but also in terrestrial environments with relatively isolated conditions. In terms of biodiversity level, island biogeography generally focuses on a small scale, such as species diversity and genetic diversity. The studies of biodiversity on a large-scale based on island biogeography, such as ecosystem and landscape scales, were seldomly… More >
