Carbon Monoxide Modulates Auxin Transport and Nitric Oxide Signaling in Plants under Iron Deficiency Stress

    Kaiyue Hong1,2, Yasmina Radani2, Waqas Ahmad2, Ping Li3, Yuming Luo1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.1, pp. 45-61, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.046389 - 26 January 2024

Abstract Carbon monoxide (CO) and nitric oxide (NO) are signal molecules that enhance plant adaptation to environmental stimuli. Auxin is an essential phytohormone for plant growth and development. CO and NO play crucial roles in modulating the plant’s response to iron deficiency. Iron deficiency leads to an increase in the activity of heme oxygenase (HO) and the subsequent generation of CO. Additionally, it alters the polar subcellular distribution of Pin-Formed 1 (PIN1) proteins, resulting in enhanced auxin transport. This alteration, in turn, leads to an increase in NO accumulation. Furthermore, iron deficiency enhances the activity of… More >

The Physiological Mechanisms Underlying N2-Fixing Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Tolerance to Iron Deficiency

    Abdelmajid Krouma1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.7, pp. 2133-2150, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.029048 - 29 May 2023

Abstract Iron is an essential element for plants as well as all living organisms, functioning in various physiological and biochemical processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, DNA synthesis, and N2 fixation. In the soil, Fe bioavailability is extremely low, especially under aerobic conditions and at high pH ranges. In contrast, plants with nodules on their roots that fix atmospheric nitrogen need much more iron. To highlight the physiological traits underlying the tolerance of N2-fixing common bean to iron deficiency, two genotypes were hydroponically cultivated in a greenhouse: Coco nain (CN) and Coco blanc (CB). Plants were inoculated with… More >

Data Analytics on Unpredictable Pregnancy Data Records Using Ensemble Neuro-Fuzzy Techniques

    C. Vairavel1,*, N. S. Nithya2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 2159-2175, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.036598 - 09 February 2023

Abstract The immune system goes through a profound transformation during pregnancy, and certain unexpected maternal complications have been correlated to this transition. The ability to correctly examine, diagnoses, and predict pregnancy-hastened diseases via the available big data is a delicate problem since the range of information continuously increases and is scalable. Many approaches for disease diagnosis/classification have been established with the use of data mining concepts. However, such methods do not provide an appropriate classification/diagnosis model. Furthermore, single learning approaches are used to create the bulk of these systems. Classification issues may be made more accurate… More >

Functional Analysis of the Genotypic Differences in Response of Pea (Pisum sativum L.) to Calcareous-Induced Iron Deficiency

    Sameh Barhoumi1, Hasna Ellouzi2, Abdelmajid Krouma1,3,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.2, pp. 521-536, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023555 - 12 October 2022

Abstract Lime-induced iron chlorosis is a major nutritional disorder causing severe plant growth and yield reduction in the calcareous soils of Tunisia. The understanding the behavior of key metabolic functions of peas on calcareous soils, the identification of useful traits of tolerance, and the exploration of the genotypic differences in response to this constraint remain the most efficient approaches due to their coast, environmental benefits, and sustainability. For this purpose, a greenhouse experiment was conducted on three pea genotypes (Alexandra: Alex, Douce de provence: DP, and Merveille de Kelvedon: MK) cultivated on calcareous soil (Fe-deficient) and… More >

New Concept to Non-Invasively Screen Iron Deficiency in Patients

    Ali E. Dabiri1,2,*, Erik Samwel3, Ghassan S. Kassab1

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.17, No.2, pp. 75-83, 2020, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2020.08775

Abstract Nearly two billion people are afflicted with iron deficiency and approximately 300 million children globally have anemia. Most of those affected are unaware of their lack of iron, in part because detection of iron deficiency requires a blood test. It is becoming increasingly important to screen these individuals to reduce medical cost and avoid chronic disease conditions. There are limited settings of laboratory infrastructure for standard blood-based tests around the world to routinely accomplish this important screening test. We propose a new concept to use either human hair or nail as a screening method to… More >
